Poll question: Is Bush ahead in the polls because most Americans are racist?
The polls show most Americans support a foreign policy that embraces preemptive strikes outside legal bounds (ie. Iraq).

They are willing to kill foreigners willy-nilly behind a policy that says "all Muslims are a POTENTIAL threat." Never mind the ramifications of killing innocent people, as long as these attacks hinder terrorists they are justified. After all, in the end us Americans represent the good guys: Christian/Jewish brotherhood, and the Muslims represent the terrorists.
Generalizations like this are what leads to mass genocide. It's no different than the anti-Jewish propaganda that Hitler promoted as a cover for his brutal imperialism.

4. I think that the polls
are skewed to reflect what the poll taker wants to happen. bush is a loser and they won't allow it to appear. People are sheep and if bush is allowed to look like a winner then people will think that they are wrong in their feelings. Its as very old trick. Push Poll, suggestive polls. It is a game. Only one poll counts that is on election day. Lets make sure the elections are fair.

5. Funny, but that's what the German people claimed after WW II.
I think your theory is a dodge of responsibility. In the end, our government's policies reflect on us: the voting citizens of the USA. It will not do the world's victims of our preemptive agenda any good for us to claim ignorance. We must educate ourselves before it's too late.

9. IMO.... more racist than ignorant............
If ignorant means un-informed then it is a factor.

We have just sponsored a coup in Haiti, and forcibly removed the popular leader and replaced the democratically elected government with criminal thugs (convicted murderers and drug runners). The story is now 7th or 8th page news, and the news found there is total bullshit propaganda.

However, in the case of Iraq, there are plenty of people who got a wink, and gave a nod when smirky started the WMD crappola. They know damn well it is about colonialism and blood for oil. They just don't give a shit. We will take what we want. We are Americans. We are better than anyone, and the resources of the planet belong to us if we want them.

Greed, arrogance and racism. Then ignorance.

11. or nationalism
just look at the way some Americans talk about White Christian nations like Canada and France! America is the greatest ra ra ra! Too bad all modern nations have healthcare for their citizens except us.

Apparently Americans have the right to run roughshod over the world. If it was racism then we wouldn't have Generals like Ricardo Sanchez or Colin Powell.

18. No. Sanchez and Powell have nothing to do with it.
I am talking about racism aimed at Muslims, not American blacks or Hispanics. To say the US is not racist because of these two is ridiculous. That doesn't change our attitude toward Muslims does it?

35. Possibly. Why do Americans never give a shit when we are bombing
poor, brown-skinned people around the world? They KNOW we are doing it, they simply do not care. I do believe that bigotry is very much alive, well, and applauded in America. We've been giving Americans the benefit of the doubt for a long time now, but it's getting awfully hard to believe they could possibly be this ignorant especially with writers hollering from the rooftops about what's going on.

Listen to the troops talk sometimes. Not all of them of course, but the vast majority i've heard speak like they thought the muslims were backward ignorant people not capable of using technology. Now The tops was a clip on the daily show with jon stewart where a soldier gave an iraqi SCIENTIST a baggie of cookies.

7. Ignorance Breeds Racism
I do not buy into any Media Polls for one thing. I believe, just as their selective news items are presented, that its all manipulated.
American's who are on the ignorant scale, more so in certain regions tend to be racists.
Call it an inferiority complex, or what ever. One would like to believe people who are intelligent are void of racism, but that may not be the case in general.
I personally believe that American's who support Bu$h*t are members of the
"Mushroom Nation" (Those who are kept in the dark, and thrive on massive quantities of Bu$h*t).

But let's assume you're right.

I don't believe that supporting Bush makes on a racist, but what do I know. I'm one of those spineless centrist liberals who isn't much better than a conservative.

But let's assume you're right. What's our next step?

Should we all leave? Do you believe America is a failed premise?

10. I think it's the way to poll questions are presented as well.
The non-biased ones ask reasonable questions and allow a variety of responses. Some others ask very pointed questions, but many times the response options are skewed only one way.

ie: Do you approve of the the US invading Iraq?
a: Absolutely
b: Very Strongly
c: Yes

Now, if you disagreed with the invasion, there's no way to answer the question, and I've seen similar setups on many polls, and I've even had calls from pollsters where I responded "There's no way to answer that!" The pollster than says "then I'll mark it that you declined to answer that question". Obviously that skew es the results.

14. Not racism... RELIGIOUSISM.
Religious fundamentalism.

All the bullshit religions speak of when it comes to peace and all get thrown out the door once people remember that other little phrase "Believe in my god or else". Islam speaks the line. So does Christianity. And the 'christians' in power have a habit of thrusting their religion down our throats while ensuring certain verses are never mentioned in order to justify the slaughter.

Organized religion is evil. They talk of peace for all (except those perceived as 'unbelievers'.) x(

15. It's deeper than that.
Americans don't do much to educate themselves about politics. Few know even minor details about government, such as how bills are passed or the process required to amend the Constitution. Even fewer know about any given political subject in depth. Try to get the average American, for example, to explain the philosophy behind a graduated income tax or describe the US's involvement in the overthrow of democratically elected governments in places like Chile.

Couple this ignorance with a mass media that focuses mostly on jingoistic, pro-conservative news and celebrities/fluff news and one gets a public that never really gets told how the world works. In the absence of hard facts, people will tend to respond emotionally to politics, not intellectually. The simple, feel-good, mom-and-apple-pie approach of conservative politics in this environment is damn well unbeatable. Surely, conservatives benefit from the racist vote, but the conservatives wouldn't stand a chance if society stressed being politically informed as a virtue.

20. I disagree.
The willingness of the average American voter to hinge his personal safety on the indiscriminate killing of Muslims is racist, plain and simple.
It devalues their lives versus our own because it promotes the mass murder of countless innocents in order to kill a few villains hiding among them.
One does not have to be a rocket scientist to recognize racism. It is a matter of the heart.

16. "No more attacks in the US = bush right to invade"
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 12:54 PM by nu_duer
There is a place on the net I became aware of thru DU where a few idiots hang out and praise the moron while making fun everyone who doesn't. Its one of the most juvenile little madhouses I've come across on the web, but I go there from time to time just to pop a few balloons.

Anyway, I've encountered what boils down to this argument more than once there:

1) Awol tells the US that insert country is a threat to the US.

2) The moron attacks/invades said country to "protect" the US. No proof required before hand, and everyone (except the regime) is expendable.

3) The US remains attack - free.

4) Therefore, we have our proof that it was right to attack/invade said country, and proof we need to invade the next country we are told is a threat.

Hard to believe people actually think this way, isn't it?

I think the fact that "they" do not look or live like "us" makes it easier to accept the madness of bush, but I think if bush made the case that a westeren nation (or bloc) was a threat, that'd he'd be able to sell it to a frighteningly sizable portion of the country. I remember people saying we should go after France after Iraq.

Maybe all racism is based on selfishness, and that's what's really at the bottom of it all?

I consider myself more liberal than not, and I have a much higher opinion of the common man than you seem to. Isn't respect for the common man a tenet of liberalism?

And do you really think it's racist to take a look at Islam, when it's Islamist radicals who are blowing up people all over the world?

Help me out here.

32. Um, there were reasons. You may not agree with them,
but when Saddamn surrendered after Gulf War I, he made certain promises in order to stay in power. If he didn't keep these promises, it was reason to go back in.

And the vast majority of Americans are good-hearted people with lots of common sense, IMO.

24. Bush's handlers will do anything...
....to turn the election into an auction, a bidding war for the votes of the unreflective middle, those still panic-stricken, the Christian jihadis, the racists, all conducted using dead Moslems as the currency.

Why?

Because Kerry can't out-dead-Moslem Bush. Bush has got credentials, and a record. All Kerry can do is promise to be equally prompt, or more so, to kill swarthy pagans, if elected. (If he's a real human being, he won't try.)

It's the only record Bush's got, and he's going to run on it.
