Will * need to reinstitute some form of a draft before November?
Things seem to be getting really desperate in Iraq and also Afghanistan. How many Americans killed today? I'm starting to lose count of the daily deaths. Its only going to get worse if something isn't done to shore up the troops. I'm beginning to think he won't be able to wait until after the election.

3. Not until after the election
If Bush has to leave the military starved of personell, even if it puts the soldiers at risk, he will do it, lest he scare College Republicans and suburbanite soccer moms with teenage sons.

4. But what's going to look worse for his re-Selection:
a draft or massacres of soldiers? I'm wondering if he might try some sleight of hand to make it look like this is just a temporary, e.g. 6 month draft push. He'd probably limit combat duty to men, and give some kind of huge financial award to the poor drones.

5. A draft is out of the question...It makes it personal....
...in a way that hundreds of dead soldiers cannot. You may not know any of the dead, but in a draft, they can start coming for you...and that's personal.

6. He may have to
Things are a lot more serious over there than we think it is. But it won't be called a draft. It will be called something like National Service or some other Orwellian bullshit. But I honestly think we are on the verge of losing control of the entire country, if we have not already. When I hear the generals calling for truces and cease fires with the Iraqi fighters the handwriting is on the wall. We are either losing, or we have already lost.

8. Yes, I didn't know what other form it could take, but its certain that
if we don't get many, many more boots on the ground there will be massive coalition casualties. Of course, there will also be even more Iraqi casualties, but * could care less about them. Matter of fact he could care less about the coalition soldiers, except that their deaths negatively impact him politicaly.
