Two types of Democrats.
I have been dealing with a lot more politically like-minded people. I have seen quite a dichotomy between some. Many of the people I meet at the meetups and the the Denver Young Dems are a very yuppie-ish. Not that there's anything wrong with that. They are professionals or aspiring professionals. Then the people at the fundraising job I am doing. THey tend to be more laid back and many border on being hippies. Informal. They care very deeply about their cause and love supporting it and getting paid for it. Me, and many others probably fall somewhere in between. But I just think it is interesting.

1. I'm a Socialist registered as a Dem, is that weird?

PS~ Voted Clinton twice and Gore three times. That said I've migrated over to the "We've got to start thinking completely diffently now" stage since 1997...

10. the different type thinking is that you have to sell your message
If W has proved nothing else it's that message really, truly, for a fact, no doubt, trumps reality in "modern" day USA.

Anybody actually paying attention today (other than the minuscule minority who actually "benefit" from W's policies) would not vote for Bush. The fact that polls are pretty even proves that reality is irrelevant.

We need someone who can craft an image/message that appeals to a larger proportion of the sway-able than the total Bushit message propagated by those propping up Bush.

The only issue in 2004 is getting Bush out of office. Repeat - the only issue in 2004 is getting Bush out of office.

2. we need more of the
"yuppie types" Even as a socialist i see the need for more dems in the boardroom, but the pattern is lib young then when you have to pay taxes go repuke. A lot of freepers are ex dems from college, in fact college repukes scare me. But the youth now are disenfranchised from teh dems, and marxism/socialism/radicalism/green et al are more suited to them.

5. Just because someone is a professional doesn't mean they're
less idealistic than a "hippy" type. It just means they have to wear really crappy pants all week. Heh.

I'd say the two main types of Democrats are moderates who really only vote on wedge issues, and people with broader aims (like labor activists or union supporters), who compromise and choose the lesser of two evils.

7. If you're gonna put it into two groups
It would have to be the moderates...who are not liberals at all in my opinion, and the real liberal liberals...who want what they want and won't be satisfied until they get it.
