MARIA
I'm just curious, how hard do you think Maria is going to campaign for Arnold? Will she be vocal, or will she just stand behind him like Vanessa(Kobe's wife) and keep her mouth shut? Do you think any of the Kennedy's will come to Cali to support the democrats? DRAMA,DRAMA,DRAMA, let the games begin!!!!!
I think that this was Arnold's master plan when he met her back in the 80's, now he is working his plan.
Yeah, I know another conspiracy theory, but so what!!! Think about it. He has the Nazi baggage, and what way could he be a republican and show everyone that he isn't cut for from the same cloth as his father. Marry America's version of royalty, who just happen to be notorious liberals. Yeah, think about it.

1. Ted Kennedy has already been pretty vocal...
... in his opposition to the recall.

I don't know if he'll come out and endorse any of the Dems, though.

2. Just my 2 cents here..
But Gray Davis should be given the highest level of support here from Ted and other Dems. Granted he's unpopular and his state is in a huge crisis, but this recall election is all about Gray Davis and NOT the state of California. If Californians don't like him, wait til the next election to vote him out. But Davis won the election fair and square last year....

5. but,
But, you have to admit the Arnold is a great opportunist. He knew that normally he wouldn't have a snowballs' chance in hell of being governor. When Diane said no, it was like opportunity came knocking. He only has to get 20% of the vote right?
Ted, and the rest of the clan need to get their asses to California. At the very least vocally reject the recall vote by radio, tv,and newspaper. Reject it in California not Mass.

8. Oh I agree
Arnold is playing his cards right. He doesn't even need to campaign- he's Arnold fer chrissake! Everyone already knows who he is!
And damn straight the Dems need to get down to CA and fight for Gray. If anything, this election is going to be a major pyschological drama for the Democrats. If they lose Davis in the recall election, they'll lose morale and give Republicans a boost of confidence in 2004.
This is an election that is a must win, IMO.

11. But it's about democracy, not Democrat-cy
If people really think Davis is doing a crap job, they should be able to toss him out. And if his replacement does a crap job, toss that person out. Eventually people will smarten up and start looking at candidates more closely, because the alternative will be an increased tax burden just to pay for all the elections.

Political jobs should be treated the same as any other jobs.

3. Why is everyone blaming Davis for a crisis that was fueled primarily by
the Bushies? (referring to the energy crisis in CA).

Is everyone's memory that short? And why aren't people there in the streets over this? This is the equivalent of what happened in Texas when the Dem party was ousted. Hello? Anybody home in the Left Coast?

4. Thats a good question Dover.
*asks Darrell Issa* lol well folks you know what he did he told me not to question the president in war and Bill Clinton's penis, so I said what about it, Bill Clinton's penis. Sorry you know I like to be silly but on a serious note it is Kenny Boy's fault more than Davis.

6. the answer to your question: FOX news
...where no problem is EVER Bush's fault. :eyes:
It wasn't known at first, but as the Enron case unfolded it was shown that Enron DID manipulate the power prices in CA to such an extent that it may very well have been the trigger for the crisis. As for the budget crisis, that's something caused by Bush's economy and no Governor can really "fix it". Blaming Davis is just a petty Repuke tactic to get him out of office because they don't like the fact that he won relection last year fair and square.
I am quite sickened by the smear campaign waged on Davis. Could anyone have prevented it? Yeah, Bush probably could. Is it Davis' fault that Enron screwed CA? No!
Davis has done nothing deserving to get him kicked out of office, and that's the bottom line.

7. If you're not in California, it may be hard to understand...
... but during the whole "energy crisis" the airwaves were blanketed with anti-Davis ads run by an organization called the "American Taxpayers Alliance" which appears to be a coalition of a large number of huge corporations, including energy companies.

So, after having the concept of "Grayouts by Gray Davis" hammered into their brains for weeks (or it may have been months), those that aren't quite as informed as us here on DU (which is the vast majority), just kinda accepted that the so-called "energy crisis" was Gray Davis' fault.

Oh, and did I mention that several Republicans in Congress publicly hinted how nice it would be if there was an ad campaign run to deflect the blame for the "crisis" from them? Convenient how these ads began running a few weeks later.

I've been telling anybody who'll listen, and many people are quite interested to learn about this. It really seems to flip people's minds who are on the fence about the recall or who support the recall even though they think Republicans are slimy bastards.

9. Interesting! Of course! But surely the whole Enron thing changed
people's perceptions of how the crisis really happened? Don't most Californians know the story now?

I don't understand why the Dems aren't screaming this message at the top of their lungs?!!!! Something about the Dem's behavior regarding this whole recall thing just doesn't make sense to me. Why is it so difficult to reverse this situation along with public opinion (and in a Dem stronghold like CA. it ought to be a cinch), by clearly and succinctly stating the facts and organizing a response (re: what to do about a candidate)?! It's like watching someone stuck in quicksand and not one person can, or will, organize a rescue. Aren't the stakes sky HIGH?!

It just seems to all be so jumbled.

10. No. Most Californians don't know the story...
... although I'm sure they can tell you plenty about Laci Peterson, Kobe Bryant, Jessica Lynch, and Elizabeth Smart. News coverage here sucks just like anywhere else.

As far as what the Dems are doing... well, I don't think they've even begun to fight. We'll see what happens when Gray gets his campaign machine in full gear. Unfortunately, he's not going to have Garry South for this one.
