What exactly are "Chickenhawks" and "Freepers"?
I know what they represent... I've seen the words and understand what they mean based on the context of the sentences. But I've never heard the history or the specific definition of the terms.

What do they mean exactly?

2. Definitions
Freeper-someone who reads Free Republic and espouses its views

Chickenhawk-someone who avoided the draft and never served in the military who wants the US to have a war policy

These might not be entirely accurate, but they'll do until someone with more knowledge posts here.

4. Well.
A Chickenhawk is someone who advocates war without having had the guts to go to war themselves.

A Freeper is a member of Free Republic which is a website diametrically opposed to us. Can also be used to describe a Right Winger or Republican who doesn't frequent that site.

6. Welcome to DU
I'm not sure who started using the term Chickenhawk. It might have come from Al Franken's first book, Rush Limbaugh is a Big, Fat Liar. He had a chapter Operation Chickenhawk. It caught on because it fits so well on the sort of person who wouldn't fight themselves but want other people to fight.

chicken -- draft dodger
hawk -- pro-war as long as someone else or someone else's children fight

7. chickenhawk has at least two meanings
1. As used here it is a play on the usual Hawk versus Dove debate. Hawk = pro-war, Dove = pro-peace. So a chickenhawk is someone who is pro-war but too chicken to go themselves.

2. In jail, a chickenhawk is a convicted child molester - the lowest of the low.

9. Chickenhawks
are those who are gung ho for war as long as they aren't the one's who do the fighting, they are "arm-chair warriors".

Freepers are the rightwing neo-cons who frequent the News Max site and it's a name they gave themselves.

I'm not sure about the history of either term  but as long as I can remember people who were hawkish on war but to chicken :scared: to fight themselves have been called chickenhawks.

10. "freeper" is one who hails from freerepublic.com
but has sort of evolved into a general description for any frothing-at-the-mouth wingnut conservative.

I think chickenhawk is perfect description because - well - ya got your cowardly "chicken" and your warlike "hawk" (opposite of dove). Put 'em together and... you've got a chickenhawk with the personality of the chickenhawk from the foghorn leghorn cartoons.
