18. Why must we rely on The Daily Show for sane news coverage?
Check out this cutting side-by-side comparison of Kerry and *'s Vietnam-era military experience, aired on Wednesday night's Daily Show...

It was freakin' hilarious, but a bit sad, too... in that all Repugnant slurs regarding Senator Kerry's war record should be immediately rebuked in just this manner -- yet nearly every news outlet covered the b-s as a relevant issue.

3. The Barbara Walters/ABC Joke was hilarious, I laughed out loud
"Barbara Walters hasn't had a facelift, the wrinkles in her face are from G-Forces as a result of her falling into an abyss..." (because she's doing ABC shows that suck so much.)

I HATE ABC. Good one Jon.

5. Could you describe a little?
I can't stand it when somebody says that something is good or something important is going on and then doesn't tell us what that something is. I don't have access to a TV at the moment! Please take pity on me and tell me what the hell your so going to cry about! :7

7. So much of it is his delivery
and sarcasm. Plus, the stuff was coming so fast it was brutal...pretty hard to describe. Basically, he just read the news in his usual way, but just NAILED little prick Charlie Gibson for being out of his league in attempting to question Kerry. Stewart really pushed home the point that we are approaching armageddon but the pricks in the mainstream media are obsessed with medals or ribbons, throw em or not throw em...he is just SO able to sum up the absurdity and hypocrisy. Wherever you are, you should be around a teevee at Stewart time. It is essential these days.

8. Stewart was the anteater, Hughes could not escape the mighty tongue...
Karen Hughes, in a clip from "Meet The Press," wallowing in the Bush "Kerry throwing the medals over the fence" talking points:

"Well, if he did this because he believed so strongly in it I could understand, but he PRETENDED to do it, and to pretend to do something for purely political reasons I find to be very revealing."

Jon Stewart, pausing thoughtfully for a moment and looking into the camera:

"Yes...to PRETEND to do something in 1971 for purely political reasons, I find that VERY REVEALING as well."

:toast:

16. If you aren't one to object to the idea...
...you can download episodes via BitTorrent. I don't have cable, but I never miss an episode (of Daily Show and a number of other guilty viewing pleasures)...

19. Terrific article in the 4-27 Los Angeles Times Calendar section
The author describes Jon Stewart's delivery style perfectly: he veers between deadpan disbelief and deep sarcasm. He also analyzes why it is that The Daily Show is the best thing going for news on tv these days. If you want to read it I suggest going to your local public library.

I was going to post parts of the article here, but the LA Times online has gotten unbelievably anal-retentive about letting you see anything more than 12 to 20 hours old. (They want you to pay for the privilege, which I refuse to do, especially since I already subscribe to the newspaper.) If I want to share one of their articles and IF I'm alert enough to do it immediately, I copy the entire thing to my files so I can send it later. I'm sorry I didn't do it this time --

At any rate I love The Daily Show, although according to the article I'm not in their demographic.
