Bush Faith: Calculated or Real?
Do you think Bush's faith is calculated or sincere?

Interesting article that doesn't lean one way or the other but discusses it:
http://www.boston.com/news/globe/living/articles/2004/04/29/a_timely_look_at_how_faith_informs_bush_presidency/
A timely look at how faith informs Bush presidency

In the 2000 election, almost half of his nearly 50 million votes -- about 23 million -- came from evangelicals, according to "Frontline."

In the process, he read every political memo about attracting the religious vote. "I remember George W. reviewing the memorandum on Texas and he just lit up," Wead says. "He said, `You know, I could do this in Texas.'"

He did. His evangelicalism helped propel him into the governor's office, and then to a landslide reelection. The day of his second inauguration, he told a small group of supporters in the governor's mansion, "I believe that God wants me to be president."

15. Don't think so. It's a manufactured image like the rest of it.
He studied the role just like he and Cheney are "studying" the truth of 9-11.
He's a con man.

4. Frontline tonight: The Jesus Factor
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/jesus/

As an evangelical Christian, President Bush has something in common with the 46 percent of Americans who describe themselves as being "born again" or having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Often has the president recounted praying about major decisions facing the nation--but what do we actually know about the rudiments of George Bush's faith? To what extent do the president's spiritual beliefs impact or influence his political decision-making? And how closely do Bush's religious views mirror those of the country's burgeoning--and politically influential--evangelical movement?

Understanding the President and His God

The question is not, When did George W. Bush accept Jesus as his personal savior? The "Frontline" documentary "The Jesus Factor," on PBS tonight, raises a different issue: Do most Americans realize just how fervent the president's evangelical faith really is?

"The Jesus Factor" is a little like those illustrated anatomy books where transparent plastic pages can be flipped to reveal the muscle, bone and organs beneath the skin. Stripping off the layers of patrician pedigree, Yale and his Texas business pursuits, the documentary lays bare Mr. Bush's spiritual conversion and its consequences. (more at link)

8. This 46% of Americans
that say they are "born again" or have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is very misleading. There's a big difference between being a 'born-again' fundie freeper and just an ordinary christian who prays on occasion and is also a rabid supporter of Bu$hCo.

The real number is probably closer to 15%. That would be the 23 million xians that actually voted for W last time.

They keep trying to spread the illusion that the country is evenly split, when in reality the majority of Americans no longer support this regime.

7. bush talks religious smack because he knows it means votes
He is an absolute total fraud as a human being. If he truly believed what he says he believes he wouldn't be doing what he has done all his life. And the God he says he loves is a very patient being who will have a chat with george one of these days.

10. God said, "Gee, George, I'm feeling a tad chilly right now ..."
Then God said, "Gee, George, I'm feeling a tad chilly right now ... mind if I turn up the heat a little? You don't? Good! ... Satan! Oh, Satan! Would you please raise the thermostat from 72 to, say, 1200? Thanks! ... Now, George, about you admiring my son so much ..."

11. www.TheocracyWatch.org
either way, he is part and parcel of the religious right's hijacking of the Republican Party.

Read chapter 7 of Kevin Phillips's book "American Dynasty". Bush is now seen as the leader of the relgious right by its members.

This is a very dangerous thing, given the "ends justify the means" mentality of many in the religious right.

For details on the hijacking of the GOP by the religious right check out this web site: http://www.TheocracyWatch.org/

12. A simple test:
Do his action match his words? Since you can't know his inner thoughts, the only way to tell if his faith is real or not is to see if he "walks the walk". Does he follow the example of Christ? Easy answer: NO!

16. Exactly. That's why alot of people view Fundies as shams
Their actions are opposed to the words of Jesus with whom they say they have a close personal relationship.

17. It's Fake
Kudos to the poster who recommended you read American Dynasty. Dubya learned a lesson from Poppy's campaign. Poppy failed to convince the evangelical segment of the population, so Junior and his handlers decided to go after them in a big way.

--Notice that he hardly ever uses *Jesus* when he is talking about his religion. He talks about "a Higher Power" or "a higher spirit."

From his inaugural speech:

"... we are guided by a power larger than ourselves who creates us equal in His image."

--He also place his hand on a Masonic Bible to take his oath.

--He invited avowed Satanist Ozzy Ozbourne to the White House. I remember rocking out to Ozzy in my teen years, but I've gotta wonder--is this the message that a true Christian who is trying to show the world how much the Lord means to him would truly send to the world?

--He attended the rituals at Bohemian Grove.

http://www.infowars.com/exclusive_new_bg.htm

--He made fun of 24-year-old Texan Karla Tucker after he refused to stay her execution order in Texas, mimicking her last words, 'Please don't kill me."

Dubya and Dick "dick" Cheney purport to be members of the Methodist church. Read here to see what the leadership of the Methodist church has to say about their war-mongering:

http://www.endthewar.org/frontps/faith/umc1.htm

Believe it or don't. Some will. Some won't. Not sure what I think, except his *Christianity* seems awfully convenient.

"I will not steep my speech in lies; the test of any man lies in
action." ~Pindar, Greek philospher (c. 518-443 BC)
