Umm, I don't get it. We have a "truce" that includes heavy bombing and now we are going to turn Falluja over to what, one of Saddam's generals? And he is going to protect Fallujah from who? Us? The "Fallujah Protection Army"? Is Patty Hearst going to be with them? Are we still going to bomb them like we are now during this "truce". Is everyone crazy in the WH and Pentagon?

6. Absolutely - to commit atrocities Americans can't commit
We are "liberating" Fallujah by using Saddam tactics to quell the rebellion. There will probably be people hanging from lamp posts, but then it won't be the Americans doing it.

2. Let me get this straight?
As reported on the ever-reliable CNN, some former Saddam Generals came forward and offered their services and brought an army of 1,600 former soldiers with them.

Is this the Fallujah Protection Army?

uummmm...just exactly who is going to pay them? Who's side are they on? Will the rest of Iraq (outside of Fallujah) accept a re-armed, American paid, Saddam army?

3. Sounds a lot like Patton...
Putting former SS officers in charge of security in Bavarian towns after VE Day.:eyes:

Who will they protect? Why, their Sunni brethren, of course--at the expense of all those Shi'ites!x(

B-)

4. The occupation
Edited on Thu Apr-29-04 01:59 PM by plurality
They'll go in with a load of spies and what not, find people who don't love being occupied and randomly kidnapped to be raped and tortured, anyone who they find expressing this sentiment will be kidnapped, killed in some brutal fashion, and have their body displayed publicly as a warning to anyone else harboring such thought, just like Saddam used to do.

5. They must trust General Salah quite a bit
Edited on Thu Apr-29-04 02:00 PM by htuttle
Would probably be embarassing if he were to side with the rebels after entering Fallujah, wouldn't it... Not to mention that General Salah must trust all 1,100+ of those Iraqi troops he's been given not to do the same.

I didn't find much on a General Salah in Iraq via Google -- I wonder if he was one of the Ba'athist generals from whom the US military purchased Baghdad last year? Maybe they haven't fully paid him for that yet, so that's why they trust him?

Hmm....we'll see what happens soon, I guess.

7. This is arse covering at its finest
The US lost the battle of Falluja. The Iraqis won. So now the US announces it's "allowing" them to do their own policing.

I'm shocked more folks aint laughing at this.
