Here's the e-mail I just sent to Sinclair Broadcasting...

Y'all tell me if I done good. (I thrive on support and constructive criticism; I flounder without it.) Here it is...

Dear Sinclair Broadcasting:

If broadcasting the names and faces of the fallen Americans in Iraq is politically motivated, then so is trying to hide those names and faces and keep those dead American soldiers nameless and faceless. If Ted Koppel's choice of topic for Friday's "Nightline" will influence the American electorate, then so does any and all other news programming, and so does WITHHOLDING news from them. The rightful and proper business and mission and goal of ANY news gathering organization is and should be to INFORM the public about various aspects of what's going on around the world. And OF COURSE that information is going to influence the public, but what's wrong with that? Isn't that what keeping the public informed is SUPPOSED to be all about? And keeping those dead Americans nameless and faceless and anonymous does nothing to honor their sacrifice; it does everything to dishonor them.

You should carry Koppel's "Nightline" tomorrow night. For you to refuse to carry it, for you to attempt to censor it, is to make yourself guilty of the motivations your announcement charges Ted Koppel and "Nightline" with having.

But if that's what you're asking me to do, then what does that have to do with "picking a state"? You're going to have to do a better job of explaining to me what you want me to do.
