Fox: "Bush Backs 'Mission Accomplished' Speech"
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,118674,00.html

{IMPORTANT NOTE: Fox did NOT run the "photo funny" below. They knew it would cause Sean Hannity to run around in circles, chasing his tail, screaming "You're attacking the president! You're attacking the president! You're attacking the president!"}

OK, back to Fox, what they said, and a few inspirational quotes from the Commissar-In-Chief:

"We face tough times in Iraq," Bush said during a Rose Garden press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin (search). "And we've had some tough fighting because there are people who hate the idea of a free Iraq"

But, Bush added, "We're making progress, you bet. There's a strategy toward freedom ... Whether it be in Fallujah or elsewhere, we will deal with them, those few who are stopping the hopes of many."

"Asked if things are getting better or worse, Bush reminded reporters that he never said aboard the Lincoln that the job was done.

"A year ago, I did give the speech from the carrier saying that we had achieved an important objective, that we had accomplished a mission, which was the removal of Saddam Hussein. And as a result, there are no more torture chambers or rape rooms or mass graves in Iraq. As a result, a friend of terror has been removed and now sits in a jail. I also said on that carrier that day that there was still difficult work ahead," he said."

Go to Fox and read the rest if you have a strong stomach. My personal favorite was "We're making progress, you bet," which is interchangeable with "boy howdy," "yumpin' yimminy," and "betcher ass."

2. AHA! But we were never clear as to what the mission WAS.
if the mission were to bring chaos and instability to Iraq, then MISSION A-FUCKIN-COMPLISHED!

4. interesting how every president gets caught up in a lie that's not a lie
shrub may be technically correct in that the speech did mention ongoing work to secure all or iraq. but we all know he was trying to claim that the job was over and whatever less was a simple mop-up.

clinton was technically accurate when he said he didn't have sexual relations with monica (certainly under the very specific courtroom definition of the term) but we all know he was trying to claim that he didn't do anything sexual.

bush the elder was technically accurate when he promised no NEW taxes. he didn't create any NEW taxes that i know of. he just raised a very OLD tax, the federal income tax. but we all know he was trying to claim that he would raise any taxes.

i find it fascinating that of all the lies that all politicians make (face it, it's a job requirement) the ones that seem the most damaging are ones that are technically truthful.

apparently lying isn't the issue. misleading is.

6. I heard all this same crap yesterday
on the ABC news, I think, but I didn't pay much attention to the part about the carrier because I was too busy marveling at his having said he was going to thank the people who died in Iraq. Is there a bigger butthole on the planet? I don't think so.

8. My local Fox station spun this as the poor poor President
Just "explaining" what he REALLY meant because big bad meanie Kerry had the temerity to "criticize" him.

I can barely remember what real television news used to be like, anymore.

Speaking of his assinine, inane attempts at folksy discourse, don't forget one of my personal faves: "We got plenty tough force."
