The photos are the Death of Ws war campaign
Edited on Sat May-01-04 01:10 PM by Must_B_Free
This is it - the moment culmination of the war in to a moment of Madness. The photos are the symbol that shows us just how insane and inane this war is.

The brutalization and humiliation of the very people we claimed to be "Helping" is an indictment of the military mentality. These people and this attitude had been marginalized by the failure of Vietnam and this Bush instigated, freeper backed episode in Iraq and Afghanistan was a resurgence of these "values". But these values have been exposed for what they really are - sickness.

Mark my words - the really is the end of the war - It coincides with the withdrawal from Fallujah and the 1 year marker where we are forced to review out "accomplishments" and they are little to none.

We have succeed in destroying a secular government in the Islamic world. It was actually a miracle that Saddam was able to hold these people together. We indicted him for his methods but it seems that we employ the same methods and, no less, the same generals after his removal.

1. I Tend To Agree With You...These Images Can't Be Deleted...
from the public consciousness...They have controlled the images for three years now, sanitizing war, but these got out and CBS had the courage to run them...I think it's the tip of the iceberg...

2. Naw. They just represent the death of American "good guy" credibility.

The photos will have no effect whatsoever on Bush's continuing "Brave War Leader" campaign. Most Americans who view these photos will have one of two reactions:

-- Shrug and say "eh, so what? Iraqis are pigs anyway."

-- Shrug and say "Well, they're just a few rotten apples. The rest of our soldiers are honorable men and women, have received excellent training, and have the best commanding officers in the history of warfare. No big deal." (This reaction, by the way, is the one the media and President are shoving down our throats. This line of utter bullshit is proved false by this New Yorker article.)

What is far, far more serious and ominous is that the rest of the world has watched Bush lead America down a path of reactionary, over-reaching hate, and it only took a little over three years to get most Americans to march right along.

The world is shocked at what America has become. These photos only help to reinforce that. :-(

5. Torture or sickness?
I think you have revealed the truth about the photos.

The purpose of military torture is to get information and there are techniques that can elicit that information in an efficient manner. Fred Ebert (KIRO Readio-Seattle) last night talked about how to get someone to "crack" in about four minutes. Here is a paraphrase of what he said:

You tie and gag two people up in a bunkbed, one on top and one on the bottom. The you tell the one on the bottom you are going to gouge his/her eyes out if they don't tell you what you want to know. If they don't tell you, then you say, ok I'm going to gouge the eyes of your buddy on the top bunk out and you dig a knife into the SHOULDER of the person on the top bunk and show the bloody knife to the one on the bottom and they think that you have gouged out an eye. Ebert said the people can usually stand torture but cannot stand for another person to be tortured (!) so they will spill the beans to prevent the "other" eye being gouged out.

According to Ebert, who worked in intelligence, it doesn't take four hours to get information by torturing prisoners. Sadly, our military operation does seem to have descended into madness.
