Sinclair is notorious for gutting their local stations and running things centrally out of their corporate offices and studios in suburban Baltimore.
Here's the list of all the stations they own:
http://www.cjr.org/tools/owners/sinclair.aspMost were former "independents"...small stations that never had news operations, or if they did were low raters. Sinclair just consolidated all these doggies and sells them chainwide (if you see the list you can see how many markets they can pitch an Advertising exec). My bets, you'll see sponsors like Home Depot and Dunkin' Donuts as a sponsor...enticed by both the cheap rates and "helping out a political friend".
Sinclair runs mean, lean TV machines. While this fiasco makes 'em look like fools, it won't effect the thing that means to most to them...the bottom line. I haven't heard of advertisers cancelling their commercials on Sinclair stations. When that starts happening, then we know the tide is turning.
