Now I know why it's okay to abuse prisoners
Because the attitude from our illustrious Commander in Chief, all the way down to kid's like the pointy finger girl believe that this is OKAY. Just look at this ad for the NAVY that I found on the site for Global Security

Excuse me? What kind of message are we giving people here? That abusing and torturing people is not only okay, it's expected? The rule of law no longer applies?

Who created this ad and who approved it?

Does anyone else find this ad really offensive and over the line? Kicking butt is mandatory? Taking names is optional? Sounds like something straight out of the Hitler Youth Handbook.

2. sort of a football term too
but football terminology has always had a military flavor, and vice versa. our team must win this game. we kick the other team's butt.
i remember when the jingoisme cranked up under daddybush and his glorious war, we'll kick them sand nigger's ass but good, but the soldiers over there right now call them 'hajis', they don't even know what country their in.

the army and navy ads used to speak of honor and dignity and service and pride, now they use the hipper, edgier terms, kick butt, take names, take no prisoners, our team rules, we'll show them, they come off as thugs and hooligans at a soccer game.

3. In all fairness is that ad put out by the Navy?
Or was it made & linked by someone else? Remember we need to keep perspective here so we don't sound like neocon shills.

6. After searching their website
Edited on Sun May-02-04 09:03 AM by freetobegay
I find nothing even remotely sugesting that they made that banner. I think someone made it & linked it to the Navy. We all know how easy that can be done.

Just my 2 cents.

ON EDIT: also if you click on the properties for the url, it has nothing to do with the U.S. Navy.

8. Well either Global Security is responsible for the ad
since it is on their website, or the Navy created it for distribution, so other websites can link to them.

However, whoever actually created the ad is not the main issue. The main issue, for me, is that this appears to be a government sponsored message and despite how cool or hip the message is, it is still condoning and encouraging criminal behavior, which used to be illegial.

11. Looks like Veronica has picked up the slogan
for her sig line.

Interesting, one of the links is to a fellow named Derek on the Majic forum, who seems to be on the same wavelength as I am this morning.

Question: Is this new slogan something the Navy folks made up and put out there?

13. Sure looks like a copyright symbol
on the slogan up in the upper right corner that says. "Accelerate Your Life".

I wonder who owns the copyright?

A company called Tribal Fusion is hosting the ad. I wonder where the money is coming from to pay for this banner?

I'd like to track this down, because I think it is worth filling a complaint or maybe sending it out to the media.

16. It IS an official ad campaign
Campbell-Ewald created the "Accelerate Your Life" campaign for the Navy. TV spots, banners ads, etc.

20. So how is connected iCampbell-Ewald to Bu$hCo?
Edited on Sun May-02-04 12:37 PM by DoYouEverWonder
Here's there little blurb about their work for the US Navy:

To help meet its enlistment goals, Campbell-Ewald has positioned the Navy as a life-changing experience that can help young people meet their own goals in life faster. As agency of record since September 2000, Campbell-Ewald provides advertising, direct marketing, interactive, database management, call center and fulfillment services.

Meet their own goals in life faster? What might those goals be may I ask? Kicking more butt?

18. It doesn't matter if they contracted an agency to make an ad for them
then they own it and are responsible for it's content.

If this is true, then the Navy is promoting illegal behavior.

5. The ad is clearly designed to attract a certain type of person
Let's be honest -- here are some reasons people would want to join the military:

1) Family tradition. There are lots of people who's entire lineage has fought for our armed forces.
2) Time of war. We got a lot of these post-9/11.
3) Economic hardship. It's a great way to pay for college or just simply get yourself on your feet.
4) Knowingly joining the military as a way to clean up one's act. Some people know they've got to change their lives in order to make it in this world. They join the military to learn discipline and honor.

Most of the people in those four categories don't need advertising to convince them to join.

And then there's a large constituency who joins the military for this reason:

5) Sick bastards who think playing war is fun. This is the group of people the military was trying to tap into with this ad. These guys tend to be the career grunts, and the military needs them in large supply. Not coincidentally, these are also the people who do things like we've seen the last few days.

Now, does the military really want these clowns? To some extent, yes. There's a definite need for this type of soldier. Would they greatly prefer someone in the first 4 categories? I'd bet a lot of money saying "yes".

7. They're targeting the 18-somethings
SPeaking in their hacked up excuse of a language to convince them to join up.

Hell, killing in real life is far more fun than playing Rainbow Six... And Bush* has given us that brave new freedom to kill! :eyes:

There are lots of things I'd openly question regarding the military, but then I'd get a truckload of people angry at me. So I won't go there.

that's why drafting 34 year olds will not work. Their hormone level has dropped enough so they can think clearly.

and fascism, two of the forces driving the PNAC traitors to abuse our military that has fought two world wars against these undemocratic movements so present in BFEE.

That's why they have to hire mercenaries, they'll do anything for a buck.
