Fox News Sunday: Koppel was wrong. Will counter: "Why they died".
Edited on Sun May-02-04 08:50 AM by chimpymustgo
Chris Wallance just pronounced what Koppel did - reading the names of the dead troops - a "mistake". So next week, Fox is going to show us what our troops have accomplished. What goals they have achieved. Why they went half-way around the world to fight this war.

I can't wait.

WHY, again, are we fighting this war?

3. maybe they'll finish the job Ted started...
and read the names of the wounded and the nature of their wounds...

or, maybe, they'll just be a lot of flags (minus the coffins, natch)

4. That could backfire
if it wasn't for it being on Fox, who's viewers are brainwashed already.

Are Americans really in the mood to hear how wonderful it is for Iraq to have new schools, roads, and hospitals when we lack those things at home?

"Oh, Johnny died so Iraqi children could have a new text book. That's a fair bargain."

6. I wonder if they will mention the fact that Iraq was already
a well educated country and that any decline came mostly from the sanctions not from any fault of Hussein.

water, rebuilding bridges, buildings?

Hey, before Desert Storm and certainly before the Bush invasion, Iraq had all these things and political freedom for women as well. Iraq had one of the most literate populations in the area, healthcare for everyone, and a model education system. So what we accomplished was undoing what we had done...destroyed most of Iraq's infrastructure not to mention the destruction of some of the world's most beautiful and well crafted buildings.

After 12 years of relentless aerial bombing, sanctions against the Iraqi people that almost totally demolished their healthcare and educational systems, this is what our 700 plus children died for?

There was a time when it was a nobel jesture to honor our war dead. But the Bush regime seems to think otherwise. If it can't be used in a political ad photo op, honoring our war dead is now wrong and almost un-American.

9. MoDo could help:
"The W.M.D. reason vanished. And, with the re-Baathification of the de-Baathification, the American idealism rational is not panning out.

Hiding the faces of the war dead makes the motivation seem like saving face in an election year.

Americans won't take casualties for the credibility of the Bush administration. That's not a good enough reason for people to die."

10. remember Jay Leno yesterday talking about Gore trying to start
a liberal TV channel? He said it would be fair since Bush's government already has its own channel: Fox.

that Faux is a shill for the Bush Admin, that's a very good thing.

I know Stern has been educating people as well.

14. These people...
... (Fox) have been getting away with fooling a lot of people for a long time and they think they can just keep racheting up the bullsh*t to fill the need (deteriorating situation, polls). They are about to find out what Abe Lincoln was talking about.

When you start having folks like Leno and Stern (not much cross section between their audiences, I'd guess) pointing this out, even the complacent are going to start paying attention. And Fox doesn't stand up to even the slightest scrutiny.

Go Fox, your hubris will be your downfall just like the hubris of Republican politicians is always their eventual downfall.

Giving the troops all that cross training on web site design and management is helpful, too. Being able to leave the Army and set up an S&M porn website is a very useful career skill.
