4. Well, a small taste: called Cheney an SOB, Condi a liar,
Libby and Abrams (the latter criminally involved in Iraq-contra) treasonous, Rove beyond description. Also said Bush really does not want this investigated or probed because if he did it would be cleared by now. And if this is not the case, then he does not have power over his subordinates when they can hide something like this from him.

39. he owned his right to choose Kerry and to speak about it
I was most impressed with this man. Russert seemed whipped going into the second half of the show.

When discussing the media in their complicity, he reiterated something I'd said earlier about the press corp--that anything critical of the badministration prompts a call from the white house to the reporter's bosses to complain. These reporters are afraid of losing their jobs if they don't report what bushco and the neocons want disseminated to the gullible Americans who can't think for themselves.

Wilson's not dumb. He and others like Rand Beers aligned themselves with Kerry early last year. You don't go after BushInc without first aligning yourself with a camp that can offer you the support you need and vice versa.

Do you ever wonder where the republican moderates are? Do they still exist? If they do, then how can they still remain loyal republicans? In some ways they are more suspect than the right-wingers. They have no power, no voice and obviously no backbone.

12. moderate Republicans
"They have no power, no voice and obviously no backbone."

*Very* true, and a good point, brigadoon!

I might add... the same is true of Democrats. THe silent "moderates" are adding to the ongoing problem.

Yet, those of us who are taking the power, using our voices, and displaying backbone often get raked over the coals.

It was ever thus.

*EVERYONE* -- Republican, Democrat, moderate, liberal -- shares responsibility for speaking up, taking action, and putting a stop to the growing fascism.

15. What About The Frog March Video?
I thought Russert went after Wilson by showing and constantly refering back to that remark.

Russert covered Tweety's ass by saying the call from Rove was "alleged"...despite Tweety all but writing his own book about it. But then Russert's Tweety's boss.

And then the shot of supporting Kerry in the tone like Wilson's supporting bin Laden.

Wilson stood tall and proud. Yes, a mustsee for all. I'm going to enjoy hearing him all week.

Hi,

I love how Wilson told Russert that....this is a democracy, we are allowed to support whoever we believe in, that is my right. )paraphrasing)

It was great! Glad I tuned in just in time for the interview.

Also loved when he admitted calling Cheney an SOB!!!

31. I'm So Sick Of This Gotcha Game...
When a Wingnut comes out and makes a wild claim, it's never scrutinized like this or framed that. For example when Bill "Come on 7...Daddy Needs A New Pair of Shoes" Bennett, says some partisan tripe, he's represented as "Family Values"...even now...or as "Commentator".

I'm proud Joe Wilson stands with John Kerry, as does Max Cleland, Bob Kerry and I'm certain a long list of patriotic Democrats from Wesley Clark on down...true men of character rather than the callous, shallow, arrogant slobs in control now.

BTW...a Cub fan? Well, it's forgiven as long as the Sox are winning

Cheers!

34. He not only admitted calling Cheney an SOB....
Edited on Sun May-02-04 01:04 PM by Tatiana
I believe he said that was the kindest thing he could say about him.

On edit:

MR. RUSSERT: A supporter of the president will point out that in The Daily Iowan in December of '03 you called Dick Cheney "a lying SOB" to an audience, and that you are an active participant in the campaign of John Kerry, and that that's your political agenda:

Attack the vice president by calling him those names, talk about Karl Rove in handcuffs; that you're a partisan Democrat supporting Kerry.

AMB. WILSON: Well, with respect to the vice president, that may be the gentlest and kindest thing I've had to say to him, about him, in recent months. And I think the record is clear, and you can go back to his speech in August. You can go back to his many statements about the reconstruction of nuclear weapons, again, well after he was told by his own CIA that there was nothing to this. There was a pattern of deception and lying to the Congress of the United States that got us into this terrible war. Again, with respect to my partisan activities or the fact that I support John Kerry, I am an American. This is a democracy. I am perfectly entitled to hold my political opinions and I'm perfectly entitled to share them. This president said on this show that he wanted this election to be a referendum on his first term. And well it should be. And I intend to enrich that political debate with what I know to the fullest extent possible.

35. Bwaaahahahahah! What a beautiful, subtle dig at Russert!
"You can go back to his many statements about the reconstruction of nuclear weapons"

As was somewhat noted at the time, on Russert's MTP March 16, 2003, Cheney claimed that Saddam had "reconstituted his nuclear weapons", and was not challenged or followed up on by Timmie, who was probably too distracted reading his RNC question list to even notice what Pork Chop Boy was asserting. This was later covered by the other times in that interview when Cheney said "nuclear programs", but I know a mushroom cloud image when I see one evoked. What a perfect cut by Gentleman Joe!

-------------

However, during a television appearance shortly before the war began, Vice
President Cheney said:

“We believe he has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear
weapons.”
March 16, 2003, during an interview on NBC’s Meet the
Press

41. EXACTLY!!!! Clarke and Wilson are amazing!
totally owning their position because it's so based on right.

Dems should emulate these two. I was flipping past Scarface Country and they had a Dem stratagist on there and she could not 'catch a breeze in her sails" from the host or Hitchens or the other politi-ho sitting on the set.

It occurred to me that these folks who accept invitations to appear on these shows really need some intensive 'guerilla' training in how to successfully handle ambush-interviewing tactics that these shows employ.

She may know her stuff, but she wasn't owning what she knew. She didn't articulate her point enough and her voice sounded like nails on a chalkboard--almost like she was scared to speak up. This is the Dems' weak point that many hosts on these shows have exploited.

If we are to cut through the lying rhetoric, the 'holes' in the road dug by the rethugs and the outright obfuscation of the truth to get the message out, then those that the Dems put out into the media arena need far better training than they're getting. It's the same analogy of sending the troops to Iraq with no adequate weaponry.

Thanks to those who posted in this thread. After reading the reviews of Joseph Wilson's interview by Timmie's I flipped on just in time to catch the entire interview. Wow, he took Timmie's best shots with skill and aplomb.

The scariest part was when Wilson talked about how reporters are petrified to say anything even slightly critical of the administration because they know a phone call to their boss is forthcoming. These evil bastards need to go.

32. Time to write our congress and demand a investigation into the abuses
reported in his book!
1. Obstructing the freedom of the press!
"I mention in the book that there are also reports from journalists back to me that they're fearful of writing these stories. One journalist said because he was afraid he would end up in Guantanamo, which is basically I think a metaphor for their being cut off. Another one said that, of course, they had two children in private schools and a mortgage. Now, I've since heard from other journalists that even the most mildly critical articles about this administration yield top-level phone calls back to their editors including phone calls from Mr. Libby himself to their editors."

2.Political attacks against critics.
"But the partisanship that goes into this was the attack on myself and on my family. This country is created with checks and balances guaranteed to, one, hold the government accountable for its actions and for its words, and two, to give citizens and the press certain privileges and rights to take on the government and challenge the government on what it says and does. For this government to have attacked me personally and then to have done what they did to my wife is, frankly, un-American."

I think we need to demand a special investigation and demand the outing of all of those owners of the supposedly leftwing liberal news media to break the lock put on our freedom of the press! Thoughts anyone?

I wonder if Timmeh had to go home and change his pants. Timmeh kept desperately bringing up the fact that Smokin' Joe had called Cheney a "SOB". His response? "That's the nicest thing I've called him in awhile." (Paraphrased, of course.) Of course, Ambassador Wilson was being slandered in multiple publications by others using obscenities, but it only mattered that he used an obscenity to describe Crash Cart.

I was so, so glad that I caught the rerun. Good for Ambassador Wilson.

NO mention I've seen for weeks and weeks. I haven't seen any coverage of this interview or the book carried by any of the WHORES who aren't running their own interviews.

Lots of Jessica Lynch-style coverage of Hamil's family (which I grant is an important story but maybe not the ONLY story going on in the world).
