Have you ever met an atheist Republican?
I have met quite a few and they're usually just as bad as the fundies. Usually Objectivist types who have no concern for anyone but themselves. However even scarier are the ones who are true neo-cons, Leo Strauss lovers who are aware of the whole PNAC agenda, they just don't care. It's true most Republicans are just useful idiots, but there actually are some who are actually supportive of what this whole cabal wants.

2. Yes, one of my good friends is like that.
She's totally disgusting. All she wants to do is protect her parent's money from the "welfare queens". She is one of the most selfish people I know.

3. I think that most of them are athiests. They just put up the front.
How can anyone believe in God/JC and idolize money, power and condone wars for profit, be racially bigoted, show virtually no compassion for his/her fellow man, hate the poor......
Its all a facade if you ask me.

4. I know a few atheist Republicans
They're usually straight conservatives. A few that I've met actually hate the fact that the Religious Right has hijacked their party.

They're the ones that I can actually deal with.

5. That depends on the definition of an atheist.
Edited on Sun May-02-04 01:20 PM by brigadoon
The question for me is what god do they really believe in?

I think the evidence is that they believe in a god of control. They worship in churches that dictate external controls for themselves as well as others to abide by so that they can live in a controlled society and in the illusion that they are in control.

It takes a brave human to go it alone with God and I believe we are all alone with God - coming in and going out. Everything we do in-between is to enable us to be comfortable in that aloneness.

8. Being an atheist means you think for yourself, so by definition no GOPers
Repukes = mindless hordes of "black and white" thinkers, who are easily led by charismatic fascists and religious ideologs.

10. Yes. Carl the Republican (our grill artiste at FUNDAY) is one
Carl is a Repub because he is a small business owner and comes from a long line of Republican small businessmen.
Carl wants good government, low taxes, a strong military -- he's one of those old-fashioned Repubs we've kind of come to miss these past three years or so. He's certainly no fan of Bush (though I have yet to actually ask him who he'll vote for).
He treats his employees well (a few have been with him over ten years), he lives a moral, well-examined life -- a truly decent man who provides for his family and props up his friends == and he LOVES to talk politics with me. He is one of my best buds.
But he thinks "God" is a naive concept -- suitable only for children and madmen. A delusion. Cloud-cuckoo-land. Nuts.
He's not only an atheist, he's the atheisty atheist I've ever met. No belief in God whatsoever and can't fathom how any rational human would believe in such nonsense.
John
It is now 47 days, 21 hours and 10 minutes to FUNDAY. Come and check out Carl the Republican's barbecue AND belief systems.

13. I've always hated the fucking myth
from the religious right of the Athiestic left, shit there are more athiests on the right than left. Those on the left tend to be turned off by religion from bad experiance, or lean in actuality towards being agnostic. However the objectivists are the fucking worst

14. Certainly. They are quite numerous in fact.
See, a number of them are very materialistic and don't want to believe you have to be good on earth so they are complete assholes with no inhibitions so they can chase money all the time.

15. Absolutely.
There's a lot of these "tough guys," especially out here in the Mid-West, who are waaaay against religion, I mean heavily, but also don't want to be wimpy Democrats. My girlfriend's brother-in-law, and most of his friends, fit into this category.
