I've seen these antecdotal stories before. However, in my city north of Chicago, apparently even the perennial crowd is irate.

I was at the local nursery buying plants today and one of the women who works there, a walking dictionary on flora and fauna, was helping me load my car. She said she liked my bumper sticker, "We don't have a democracy, we have an auction."

Anyways, she then proceeds to tell me that everyday she hears from people who are angry and upset with what is happening with our government. She said they just go on and on and on and she'd never heard anything like it. This woman didn't vote in the last election so I don't think she's starting the conversation. Said she's make sure she voted.

Angry gardeners in Illinois; way to go George.

3. indeed
pretty damn influential

People who garden tend to be people who are socially active. They are members of garden clubs, they are known to their neighbors, they are perceived as leaders, people go to them for advice, people stay on good terms with them to get free tomatoes. Oh sure, the advice may just be what to do regarding aphids, but conversations stray, and the next pest being discussed is the one in the White House.

6. Don't piss off the Garden Club.
That's the number 1 rule of conservative politics.

5. Hopefully this is more than an anecdotal trend
My wife was just telling me last night how all the employees at the retirement home she works at are constantly badmouthing bush. Being an unemployed computer programmer, I don't have any workplace stories to tell. I guess I'll have to go back to school and get some technical training so I can be even more unemployed.

7. "current resident" is hated in my part of
the county....By the way saw one of your DU bumper
stickers with another ABB and Flower Power...was
so cute. Reminded me of way back when we were all
so voicerferous and active, now we all appear to be
passive. Maybe it's my old age.
