Blog has evidence that the torture scandal may reach to the highest levels
This blog has a new entry that includes some information that ties Donald Rumsfeld to the torture that occurred in the Iraqi prions.

1. Good catch. But nothing will happen to Rummy
I believe this entire administration should be tried for war crimes.

3. I give no ground...
To any person, in my utter disgust with the sociopathic Lil' Donny Rumsfeld. Having said that, this story attempted to tie together disparate and seemingly unrelated facts to tar Rumsfeld.

It failed miserably.

It is gonna take a whole lot more, and a whole lot better, to hang something on that maniac.

4. It doesn't say the Rummy knew of the abuse...but only that some
questionable people may have been in charge over there...

6. "Tarring" Rumsfeld
The object of the post, FWIW, wasn't to "tar" Rumsfeld. It was to establish that he was well apprised of the interrogation programs at their point of origin. This raises legitimate questions about how much he knew about the kinds of techniques that were being administered. Any serious, independent investigation of the tortures will have reasons to ask these questions.

It's entirely possible (and highly likely, in fact) Rumsfeld will be able to raise a reasonable level of plausible deniability. But other answers -- provided from, say, the lower-level officers who could be scapegoated -- could also contradict that. It'll be interesting to watch, if the questions are asked.

"On 30 April 2003 Defense Secretary Rumsfeld met top US commanders at their base in Abu Ghraib, a former presidential palace recently renamed Cobra Base by the American troops. At that time some 12,000 US troops were deployed in Baghdad, patrolling the streets of the capital with the help of Iraqi police volunteers."

8. Huh?
Edited on Mon May-03-04 12:56 AM by yibbehobba
I, uh, see nothing in that link about torture. Or Rummsfeld knowing about torture. I see that some guy who teaches an interrogation class briefed rummsfeld about "the limited training the intel soldiers had to obtain critical information from Al Qaeda" and "the Intelligence Center devised a new course to help support the global war on terrorism"

Furthermore, this piece in ArmyLINK doesn't describe any sort of nastiness whatsoever. And it's about Guantanamo, not Iraq.

When developing the course, McFarland knew there were some pivotal classes that needed to be taught on the platform so the soldiers heading to Guantanamo would have a better understanding of the detainees.

"Most of these soldiers are Christians and know nothing about the Muslim religion," McFarland said. "And they know nothing about terrorism and why a person turns into a terrorist. That's why we brought in the professor of Muslim studies. His job was to show the other position and explain why do they do this. It really got these soldiers thinking."

Just scandalous!!!

Please, for the love of God, don't put me in the position of having to defend Rummsfeld ever again. And read blog-linked articles before posting.

11. Did you watch the 60 Minutes segment on this?
Remember the General over in Iraq, in an interview before this scandal broke, saying that everything was just sweet inside the prison, that international standards were being followed?

Makes you think, don't it?

10. I think Rummy knew plenty
He has always struck me as psychopathic - this sort of thing just wouldn't bother him, in my opinion. Agreed that the blog doesn't make a convincing connection, but I think Rummy knew plenty.

14. of course it does. they talk about it
before the war putting their intent out.

that is what these people do, they tell on themselves. they are blatant in their lies. and then people act surprised but always you can go back to, remember when..........adn there it is for us to see with intent

it went to the top. they wanted the info. that is the absurdity of bush and continual repeating there are no more rape rooms, as he damn well knows his people are raping and degrading. this is a sick personality disorder thing, maybe along with the dry drunk or whatever. why people say they are good at lieing i say no they arent, cause if you listen they tell you. tell on themselves. have seen it in different ways with administration

17. If he was aware of the methods, even with plausible deniability
it will stick to him. It won't matter to loyalists, but to mainstream America, he will be remembered as complicit or at least not having done enough to monitor his charges, thereby enabling the torturers.
