2. Number fudging...

A local station in OKC did something similar to this a couple weeks ago.

I fired off a letter to the station and actually got back a reply, but that reply pissed me off even more. Apparently, they've got a creative bit of calculus at work here. They'll report the stories about "reported deaths." However, when they give totals, they only give deaths that have been officially announced and named by the DoD.

And of course they don't mention at all when wounded soldiers died later from their wounds.

Classic case of low-balling...

4. Oh I did fire them an email
will let you know what they tell me

Here it is

Ok, either you guys made a mistake or somebody forgot to check the wires.

You reported in the eleven O'Clock newscast that four troops were killed today. Now on your own website you have six die in the mortar attack. I also know that Reuters reported eleven.

Not to be picky but this is way too important for those of us who know people in the Military. Heck I know people in country. So this is important to me.

Sincerely

Nadin *****

5. Get used to the creative math
As the bloodletting continues and Election Day draws near the Pentagon is going to get stingier and stingier about releasing the numbers. Some stations and papers only report "hostile deaths...since President Bush declared major combat over", which tends to cut the numbers in half.
