Question about the possibly faked Iraq prison abuse pictures

Personally, I think SOME of them are clear fakes.

I wonder if the clear fakes are from a source who intends to make it seem as if ALL the pictures are fakes.

A source which wants the gullible portion of the American public to believe Iraq is still manageable.

Anyone else wonder that?

1. I thought that too

for people who aren't paying attention, it could work. I've seen it with other damaging stories. Offhand, I remember when the Joe Wilson story broke, there was a very similar,but fake, story, involving someone named Wilkinson.

2. Sure, maybe they're all faked...

...like, we have the mother of all photo shoppers. Somehow, somebody manged to combine faked pictures of nude swarthy guys (to quote Anne Coulter) with a picture of an actual soldier from West Virginia. Damn, they're good! Even if that is the case, the fact that;
1---many Americans
2---many, if not most, Arabs
believe the pictures accurately represent an actual occurrence, then we have a major PR problem, doncha think?

4. Hey we already had a PR problem in the Middle East

Like I said in my original post, if some of the pics can be proved to be faked, then some of our more gullible voters (FoxNews watchers, for example) will feel safe in concluding the prison torture is a non-story.

...if just one can be established as fake, then there a those in the US and Britain, who will assume they all were. I have already heard some questions as to the legitimacy of the Brit Photos.

Are you talking about the rape in the desert shots? What I've been reading here indicates that most people think those are commercially-produced porn. But then, they don't take place in prison, do they?

The disinformation angle is interesting. You could be right that the American mass is so desperate for justification that they'd dismiss the prison abuse pictures, which the military seem to consider authentic, because they got sent around the internet with some fakes.

But people who would think that in the face of the evidence of authenticity would think the whole thing was faked, no matter what.

11. In the past that is how plausible deniability has been set up so it's a

legit question.

In the case of the Brits it might work, and in the case of Americans it COULD have were it not for the fact that the Hersch story broke with details, names etc. nor the fact that Karpinski is talking.

I wouldn't doubt if the fakes were actually planted on the internet by intel.
