Wolfowitz to head CIA? Whaa?!?!??
This is from the MUST-READ article just posted on Salon tonight, "How Ahmed Chalabi conned the neocons". I almost fell out of my chair when I read this paragraph:

"Military sources say Feith will resign his Defense Department post by mid-May.

Okay, that part's good.

"Feith is on the way out," Iraqi defense minister (and Chalabi nephew) Ali Allawi says confidently, and other sources confirm it. Feith's boss, Undersecretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, may follow.

Now that sounds good, but wait, there's more:

Bush political mastermind Karl Rove is said to be determined that Wolfowitz move on before the November election, even if he comes back in a second Bush term. Sources say one of the positions being suggested is the director of Central Intelligence.

Holy crap!

He's been apologizing to Bush all over the place today..

Kissing, toes, rings, etc..

2. Are there Senate confirmation hearings for that position?
I believe there are, and they are before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

8. Love Malloy but...
that line dates to Edwin Edwards, the late and rather colorful governor of Louisiana, at least a decade ago.

"I wouldn't be surprised to see Bremer out as well."

It has been a sure thing that Bremmer will be out on July 1st. Negroponte will take his place.

13. He won't pass confirmation even with Republicans
Wolfowitz is a terrible, terrible choice for CIA director. When Kerry wins, this whole thing will be a moot point anyway.

15. This makes sense
It sounds nuts to us, because we understand the neocon agenda. But it is something Bush would do. Sure, It sounds a little overt now, but not after the election. Rumsfeld and the Pentagon have been quietly and systematically subverting the CIA since Bush* took office. They got the Iraq war by putting the OSP in place to get the "intellingence" they wanted through the CIA. Then they blamed the CIA when the "intelligence" was publicly proved to be bad.

It sounds crazy to us that the madman Wolfiwitz would be chosen to head up the CIA, but remember, they're talking about after the election. If Bush* is elected, or selected, or steals the White House again in 2004, all bets requiring sanity and reason are off. He might nominate a blatant neocon to head the CIA, or he could dismantle the CIA altogether and put all intelligence gathering under Pentagon jurisdiction.
