Is anyone spotting astro turf torture apologist letters in their papers?
Edited on Tue May-04-04 11:53 AM by nothingshocksmeanymo
(same letter, different names)

Here are two letter that were in the LA Times this AM. While I have no reason to believe they are astro turf, I wouldn't put it past Rove et al to get this line of reasoning out in the op-ed pages. In the past DU has actually been pretty good at spotting astro-turf..so here's the game....post your local paper's PRO TORTURE APOLOGIST LETTERS in this thread and let's see if we can bust a few astro-turfers (i.e. same letter, different names)

Here are my two candidates:

The "we shouldn't question intel letter

Although the photos of Iraqi prisoners suffering humiliation may seem over the line, how does suffering such humiliation pale when the ultimate goal is to save lives? Granted, the photos seem somewhat tasteless, but what are these hard-core alleged insurgents suspected of? Killing and maiming innocent civilians and brave coalition soldiers alike? I don't think we as Americans have the right to complain about how the intelligence community conducts interrogations when its ultimate goal parallels ours: to save the lives of citizens.

The "my fraternity initiation was worse than this" letter

What a bunch of baloney. So the U.S. soldiers abuse a bunch of Iraqis. Big deal. So they humiliated them. It beats killing them or stabbing them a hundred times, the way the Arabs killed an Israeli soldier and threw his body out a window, one of the torturers showing the world his bloody hands. How about the U.S. reporter they tortured and beheaded? Think his family wasn't and still isn't tortured by the way he died? I had a college frat initiation that was a worse torture than the Iraqis received.

3. They are NOT Chirstians. They follow the AntiChrist and His Father
Poppy?

Just like so many monsters and murderers who have gleefully performed their depradations in The Name of Christ.

It's enough to make you wish for Hell to exist just to see the lakes of burning Dittoheads and Freepers, roasting alongside their spiritual antecedents who are so much like them, only more violent and overtly racist...yes, the Nazis, Grandpa Prescott Bush's Old Business Partners.

2. The second one is a wonderful example of how conservatives
Lump all Muslims together. Palestinian kills Israeli soldier. Pakistani terrorists who killed Daniel Perle. Iraqi insurgents. Same thing. We just throw them all in the same pile and call them "Arabs" or just plain "they".

6. I ask them if they are in total disagreement with Their President.
Their pResident has made an unequivocal statement about how horrible he finds the torture. They are going against their pResident with their excusing this activity as necessary or not to bad. I guess they don't back their Hero any more.
