Resignation Fever
It's coming. The Torture cannot be spun.

All the "isolated incident" crap doesn't jive with the mounds of expanding investigation.

It's all but OVER for Bushie.

I say they ALL resign. They all brought us this failed war together.

John Lennon was right, WAR IS OVER. Bush just hadn't figured it out yet.

1. This goes beyond resignation
War Crimes, this is what we are talking about... whoever
authorized this must face the music, not just the
seven sacrificial lambs, even if one is a one star

4. Wasn't Bush the one who said "The evil ones will no longer
be able to hide behind 'I was just following orders.'"?

Something to that effect?

Somehow I think that these are the specific types he envisioned when he wanted to protect our troops from War Crimes trials. They sure as hell seem to reflect the freeper/dittohead mentality - "Them thar A-rabs are nothin' but scumbag wastes of jiz! Nuke em all!"

3. The war was lost the moment the first bomb fell...
In the end, a healthy dose of humility and shame will serve us well.

5. Not gonna happen.
Heads will role at DOD, including Rummy, maybe, but Bush isn't going to resign over this. Hell, we've *killed* thousands of innocent people, we should be more outraged about that.

7. Rummy and Myers
have had that report since early feburary - and nothing was done until it became public - they hadn't read the "whole report" - fire those assholes and give them enough free time to read the whole report

10. Rummy saying the "public was informed" !!
<snip>
For his part, Rumsfeld listed the various military investigations of the alleged prison abuse and argued that the public was apprised of the incidents, including a brief news release issued by U.S. Central Command on Jan. 16 announcing the investigation and comments to reporters that day by Army Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, the military's deputy director of operations in Baghdad. Rumsfeld said that although it takes time, the investigations must be handled properly so that justice can be served.

So they "informed the public" THREE days before the investigation was ordered?
***
1. (U) On 19 January 2004, Lieutenant General (LTG) Ricardo S. Sanchez, Commander, Combined Joint Task Force Seven (CJTF-7) requested that the Commander, US Central Command, appoint an Investigating Officer (IO) in the grade of Major General (MG) or above to investigate the conduct of operations within the 800th Military Police (MP) Brigade.

Not bloody likely. Where is this PUBLIC PROCLAMATION of inquiry?

to the exact same treatment that US soldiers subjected Iraqis to.

11. If the Bush spin machine
is unable to contain more info from leaking out and his poll #'s slip a tad i'm gonna bet that Rummy and or wolfowitz will leave "To spend more time with my family". Bush's loyalty will extend only so far until it hurts his bottom line and not because booting their asses is the right thing to do,.

12. Inquiring minds want to know what the freeps are saying.........
I hope I am not breaking one the rules for posting this, so slap me silly if I am mods and delete, but here goes.......

THERE IS NO EXCUSE. And it looks like our military who were involved are going to get a slap on the wrist. They should have to pay severely for dragging the U.S.A. through the mud. THIS IS DISGUSTING BEYOND BELIEF!!!!!!! I am furious. I feel the same as I did over the Catholic Church scandal. The guilty must be punished severely!!

Saundra, I frequently disagree with you on other issues, but you are 100% right on this one.

I've already posted my reaction to the general story itself. This only increases my disgust at those who ran this prison.
They betrayed everything they were supposed to stand for, and presented themselves as undignified, dishonorable pigs, not a decent, honorable Soldiers. They disgraced their uniforms, country, and their brothers-in-arms.
Now, they are making bullshit excuses to cover their worthless butts. I, and most of those I know, are sickened by this conduct from them.
It doesnt' matter if it was ONLY 17 Soldiers involved. It doesn't matter if the Iraquis did worse, or even if the terrs do. As Americans, we hold ourselves to higher standards than that. So, too, does the rest of the world, like it or not.
Even IF some Iraqi guards were worse than ours, it still DOES NOT excuse the conduct of our own. Excusing one's own despicable actions by pointing to the worse ones of another is pure crap.
Those Guardsmen knew the rules regarding POW's. They were briefed on the UCMJ and the Geneva Convention, and their responsibilities regarding both, ALL military personnel are. Hell, their top sarge was a civilian prison guard. They, their company commanders, and their apparently-asleep general need to do some time in Leavenworth for the black eye they've given us all.
For Chrissakes, they even got ME agreeing with Burkey. For that alone they should swing!

Ping to my post above.
I sort of understand why so many people here are trying to find some way to excuse these pigs, folks at FR are thankfully loathe to say anything that might indicate a lack of support for the military. I can't thank them enough for that kind and decent support.
But that support is completely UNJUSTIFIED regarding these animals. Those of us on Active Duty do not support them; we revile them dfor their shaming of the uniform they wore.
Support those decent and honorable Soldiers who do their jobs every day with strength and dignity becoming American Fighting Men. Those who violate that code do NOT deserve the wonderful affection and respect that FReepers give to those in uniform.
