Hit me with your best flame
Yes I am an American! Yes I am proud to be an American! & yes God Bless America!

I refuse to let the neocons take America away from me! I refuse to let the people on the left trash America for their own politcal gain! Damn it I'm an American, I'll defend her from abroad & from within.

I Am the Flag of the United States of America

I am the flag of the United States of America. My name is Old Glory. I fly atop the world's tallest buildings. I stand watch in America's halls of justice. I fly majestically over institutions of learning. I stand guard with power in the world. Look up and see me.

I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice. I stand for freedom. I am confident. I am arrogant. I am proud.

When I am flown with my fellow banners, my head is a little higher, my colors a little truer.

I bow to no one! I am recognized all over the world. I am worshipped - I am saluted. I am loved - I am revered. I am respected -- and I am feared.

I have fought in every battle of every war for more then 200 years. I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appomattox. I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, in the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy, Guam, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Korea, KheSan, and Saigon. Vietnam knows me, I was there. I led my troops, I was dirty, battleworn and tired, but my soldiers cheered me And I was proud. I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free. It does not hurt, for I am invincible.

I have been soiled upon, burned, torn, and trampled on the streets of my country. And when it's by those whom I've served in battle -- it hurts. But I shall overcome -- for I am strong.

I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon. I have borne silent witness to all of America's finest hours. But my finest hours are yet to come.

When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battlefield, When I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldier, Or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter, I am proud.

MY NAME IS OLD GLORY.

LONG MAY I WAVE.

DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN, LONG MAY I WAVE.

No one is perfect, I love my Country & I love my flag, I will fight to my last dying breath to see her stay the course. After all I am America, you are America & togehter, we will make America stand tall.

P.S. I approve this message.

3. Yes, we shouldn't let one idiot and the clowns who surround him...
change our view of America.

Though, he certainly isn't helping the rest of the world love America!

9. You forgot "by Howard Schnauber"
Or so it is credited at http://www.rpi.edu/~newmam2/subspace/poems.htm, which offers an author credit, unlike most of the other 5,809 sites a google produces.

I was going to rise to the bait and give you a chance to call me an America hater, but the amusement value offered is close to nil.

I'll give you this to play with: A flag with feelings, among which are (proudly stated) arrogance. That's pretty cool.

What pray tell, are some examples of "people on the left trash{ing} America for their own politcal gain!"? I haven't seen much evidence (and the contrary is suggested by the other replies to this thread) that trashing America or the flag is exactly the path to political success.

And what, after all, is "the course" for which you will give your "last dying breath" in order to "see her stay"?

In your Sunday school, when you sang "Jesus Loves the Little Children," was it some version where the line "all the children of the world" was footnoted "but the children of the USofA a bit more"? Do you think that god (assuming arguendo the existence of such a being, along with its interest in particularly blessing any particular group of people) should bless America more than, say, Poland? If so, why?

Y'know, I'm an American, too. Been one all my life. I'm grateful to be an American, because it's handed me a lot of advantages for no effort on my part other than choosing the right parents. I'm at a loss to know why I should be particularly proud of that. It's not an achievement to be an American. I didn't earn it. I just got it by being born. Maybe you can help me understand the "proud to be an American" line.

Aw, heck. Now I've spent a bunch of time doing what I said I wasn't going to do.

There was no credit to anyone. If I had known the author I would have surely given the credit. I will apologize in public for my ignorance.

20. That's very nice
Do you have anything to say about the substantive part of my post? Do you have any response to posts 17 and 18? If you are ready to defend the mighty flag (or the course to stay) to your dying breath, surely you can answer a few simple questions.

17. Its a colored piece of cloth
not a god or entity.
I could give a crap about that false Idol
I love the plot of land that we stole from the indians
I love my friends and family who live on this plot of land we stole from the indians
The flag is like the bible its misused and warped to deny or promote certain freedoms..Its just another symbol used to treat each other like shit and hide behind when we get caught

18. i pledge alliegence to no cloth or symbol
i won't salute it, i won't get teary-eyed when i see it waving in the wind, i won't rally round it, or run it up the hill. i am not a flag fetishist. if one's reaction to bushco is to wave flags harder and faster, one will not get far. soon, young people will be burning them in the street to protest the war and the draft.
i care not. america is not a flag. it's people. i salute it's people
