Fox news, getting desperate.
The Democrats Big Lie

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,94191,00.html

Adolf Hitler (search) once observed that it was easier to convince people of a "big lie" repeated often enough than it was to deceive them with a lot of small ones.

In their frenzied bid to displace President Bush in 2004, leading Democrats have evidently taken to heart this tip from one of the world's most successful propagandists.
(snip)

I like how they're trying to turn THOSE tables.

I was gonna show you what I wrote back to them, but I think it might violate the rules of the forum. :)

3. The double standard is stunning
The American press can say this about Dems (the day after Gore calls Bush on the carpet), but if anyone said it about Bush, they'd lose their job. Even if they worked for a foreign govt.

5. Ohhhh...so we are back to the "liberation of Iraq" lie.
"President Bush did not lie to the American people about the reasons that prompted him to believe liberating Iraq was a necessary step. Rather, he and his subordinates laid out a compelling case on the basis of what was known at the time -- and, in those areas where we could not be absolutely certain of the facts, what were the best and most prudent judgments available."

Dems just call a Hitler like they see em.

6. A lot of letters to the editor do this too,
using "liberation of Iraq." Well, in a sense they're right, but probably they shouldn't leave out the "-i oil" at the end.

7. My letter...
Dear Mr. Gaffney, Jr.,
When has Bush NOT lied? He makes Goebbels look like an amateur. This administration thrives on the 'Big Lie'. I remember Bush's campaign speech to the military, 'Don't worry. Help is on the way.' From whom? His administration has virtually gutted veteran's benefits and military hazardous duty pay/death benefits. Our soldiers are stuck in Iraq without sufficient supplies and hardware because Bush was set on having this war, hell or high water. The firefighters and police in NYC are still waiting for the billions Bush promised them.

Bush lied about Saddam's connections to 9-11, and he lied about WMD's. He lied about 'compassionate conservatism'. He lied about what he was told about possible terrorist attacks before 9-11. I could go on, but it is late and I don't have the will to write a novel.

I guess Al Gore's eloquent speech on the heels of Bush's lie about Saddam's trying to acquire Nigerian yellowcake for his 'nuclear' program has the Bush brownshirts at Fox News a bit nervous? Too bad for Hitler he only had Goering and Goebbels. Bush has R.M. Scaife, Roger Ailes, Rupert Murdoch, Rush Limbaugh and Fox News. He may succeed where Hitler failed in completely destroying this planet. I hope all you lying, projecting, Bush whores rot in a thousand hells, suffocating on the money you made selling out your country.

9. My Response to Fox
Dear Mr. Gaffney:

Al Gore is a liar for calling out Bush on his lies?

Fox continues to faithfully carry water for the Bush Administration, which has misled the American public on almost every issue of significance.

Large percentages of the American electorate continue to believe that (1) Saddam Hussein planned the 9-11 attacks, and (2) We have ALREADY found Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. Now where would they get these ideas?

Fox promotes this mass delusion by uncritically flacking the Administration line, including the continued statements that "this is all about 9-11", and by finding imaginary WMD's yourselves. How many times has Fox reported on WMD finds in Iraq - only to retract them inconspicuously days later at midnight. Starting with the "100-acre Chemical Weapons FACTORY!!!". I even believed it at the time.

Fortunately for my sanity I watch actual news sources in addition to Fox, and found out the WMD FACTORY was nothing of the sort.

The real BIG LIE is that Fox News has anything to do with journalism.

16. actually, the law states
Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 06:44 AM by treepig
that if any thread reaches a sufficient length, the probability of hitler being mentioned reaches one. there's not really any implicit sense of this happening being good or bad, or causing the perpetrator or victim to win or lose.

on edit, ok it's time for me to be embarrassed - what i referred to above was actually not godward's law, but rather godwin's law. i have no idea what godward's law is, so i apologize for my mistaken efforts to clarify what it was, d'ohh!!

15. This guy is delusional
And it seems, so are most of the re:puke: constituency.

In short, far from lying about Iraq, President Bush has done an admirable job not only of characterizing what was at stake, but in acting accordingly. The partisan motives of those who must discredit his wartime leadership if they are to have any chance of removing him from office are clear. But it is they who are guilty of serial distortion and misrepresentation -- yes, a big lie -- about Iraq, not this President.

Can you BELIEVE this statement?

How can someone who is supposed to be educated,be so damned stupid??

18. My letter to them
was that the "big lie" is that they claim to be a "news organization".

I feel that people like this are worse than Shrub and Rumsfled et al.

I mean shrub and rumsfeld have something at stake. It's ugly and horrible, but they have personal things at stake.

But for someone to just go out and start spewing propaganda and lying about what they're doing ...... and making a deliberate choice to be complicit in crimes as huge as these....

Well that's the worst, most despicable kind of action.

I'd like to see them at the front of the line on the way to the lamppost if you know what I'm sayin'.

24. I just sent the morans an email. Do you want to read it?
It is amazing how hard you guys are scrambling to cover up for the liar thief. Fair and balanced my butt. The facts are that bush did lie about Iraq, and there was no imminent threat to the U.S.

Answer me this, If Bush had not lied about this horrible mess that he got us into, then why weren't those big bad WMD's used against us when we stormed their castle? Now, you want us to be patient while bush goes poking around in the sand? I'll tell you what he's poking around in the sand for, Oil not WMD.

I'm sure that some of your believers will eat your crap(Journalism) like fast food, but the rest of the electorate is wising up to the bumbling mishandling of this mis-administration. Fox News your fifteen minutes are almost up.

The assumption that FOX news is news is now beyond debate...

great editorial here that sums up part of the strategy of the CorpMedia

http://www.newyorker.com/printable/?talk/030811ta_talk_hertzberg

"The radiocons seldom offer analysis or argument. To the chronically resentful, they offer the sadistic consolation of an endless sneer—at weaklings, victim-group whiners, cultural snobs, Hollywood hypocrites whose hearts bleed for the downtrodden though they themselves are rich and privileged, feminists, environmentalists, and, of course, “liberals, defined as the Clintons, other members of the “Democrat Party, and persons suspected of thinking that the state ought to help correct for various kinds of unfairnesses or calamities (economic, racial, climatic, medical) or of attaching themselves to some identity other than or in addition to “American (black, gay, foreign, all humanity)."

Sorry, they're desperate. And your own name incriminates you. :eyes:
