It was a beautiful day...
Edited on Tue May-04-04 09:13 PM by MrsGrumpy
A bright and dream inducing morning with so much to do and a Super Bowl game to watch. A party to plan. It wasn't any party. It was going to be huge. People were going to get together and raise their voices; call for equality, consideration, change...REAL change.

My children, in their brightly colored red, white and blue t-shirts hand colored by a girl with so many things reflected in her eyes that it choked me. My baby, helping out. Streamers were hung, banners made and posted--some by hand, some from the campaign. Here we were...all together, bringing food for this once in a lifetime bash. And it truly was a beautiful day! So much to look forward to.

If you could have seen the auditorium. Lit by the pure energy of a thousand people who were enjoying each other, and the commitment. Okay, there were a few florescent fixtures as well. We were realizing what our future, what our children's future could be...that all wasn't lost, that we, we the people would not be lied to or bought off. Such energy.

A rousing speech, at times filled with raw anger--others unabashed hope. Unbelievable response. My ears still ring from it today, in memory. This was going to happen...

And then U2...Loud, LOUD LOUD! It's a beautiful day...don't let it slip away...

And then it did. And try as I might, I cannot find it. I want to hear voices with mine. I want to stand together again for what is right...

....I want a beautiful day! I want my country BACK!!!

2. It's not so simple AZDem. I'm sharing a feeling, not so much a
party.

P.S. I've already been there. :hi:

I spent 15 minutes a day either calling or writing about one of the good causes I see here or on MoveOn or something.

then 1 day a month I go to a function, this month it's the MoveOn.org voter registration drive

So we're taking that advice and trying this nationally. Starting this weekend we'll bring together thousands of MoveOn members. Join us at a community meeting near you to meet other MoveOn supporters and find out how you can make a difference in November. You'll hear about our plans, share your own ideas, and get a little fired up. Sign up at:

http://action.moveonpac.org/may8/

More than 2,800 MoveOn members are already signed up for the meetings, the first step towards National Election Action Day, the largest one-day voter mobilization in history, on May 8. Some members shared their reasons for getting involved, and one, from Oregon, was particularly inspiring:

"I'm not a college grad, I am a divorced single woman working hard to make ends meet. Instead of just complaining about the things around me I want to do what I can to help, make things better. Politics have never been my thing but the angrier I get at the world out there and the injustice, the more I want to learn all I can. Please let me help out in any way - even if it's folding papers and spreading the word. I recently purchased '50 Ways to Love Your Country' book and am empowered to do my part, however little it may seem."

By holding more community meetings we hope more of you can share the excitement of meeting some of the thousands of other MoveOn members in your communities, all working together to change things.

It keeps me sane with moments of the sublime :)
