That wasn't an apology
Edited on Thu May-06-04 08:17 PM by pinkpops
He just can't say he's personally sorry. This time, as has been thoroughly discussed, he was only able to report that he had earlier expressed sorrow to King Abdulla (?), whom I suppose was a surrogate selected to receive said apology.

Maybe Prince George should go back and listen to some of his old vinyl sides to get a clue as to what a real apology sounds like. Here I couple of songs off the top of my head

From Brenda Lee:

I'm sorry, so sorry
That I was such a fool.
...
You tell me mistakes
Are part of being young
But that don't right
The wrong that's been done.

Or from John Denver:

I'm sorry for all the lies I told you
I'm sorry for the things I didn't say

Go ahead, George, swallow your pride. It won't hurt you, it's not poison.

1. I agree!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for saying that! While the personal apology to the king (?) of Jordan was a nice thing to do, he should have apologized directly to the Iraqi people, like a real leader would have! He should have taken responsibility, as a real leader! But nooooo, he gives this half-assed apology to someone unrelated to the torture, after the political pressure gets to him. That's not how the Commander in Chief should act!

2. George has never been the type to listen to lyrics
or pay much mind to what they mean.

3. We Didn't Torture Jordanians...
Credit to my wife on this one:

WTF is he appologizing to this puppet for? Abdullah's gonna say "I'm so pissed, I'm not gonna ask for billions?".

Howard Fineman claims that Bunnypants only talks "King To King"...appologizing shows weakness. So does torturing defenseless people, you weaseldick! This is called being an arrogant bully.

Our only hope here is when we remove this regime, the world will be so relieved there'll be a good world party for a few days. We could use one.

4. A world party?
I'm up for that

Good point about the "King To King" thing, I hadn't quite thought of it in that context.

6. you are absolutely right!
I posted on a thread earlier today
and said more or less the same thing:
to say 'I told the King I was sorry'
is not the same thing as an apology
and why on earth does he only apologize to Jordan
for God's sake?

why can't he say this to the Iraqi people?

because he has no intention of apologising to them, thats why

9. I was watching the forums off and on from work today,
couldn't jump in, but noticed everyone had picked up on the apology being a non-apology which was nevertheless portrayed by the media as an apology. Are we that clever or are alot of other people just stupid?

10. I'M sorry that the prisoners and their families were humiliated, too!
Edited on Thu May-06-04 08:43 PM by rocknation
But I'm not part of the reason WHY they were humiliated, whereas Bush IS. "I'm sorry that you feel bad" is NOT an apology. "I told somebody else that I'm sorry that you feel bad" certainly isn't. "I'm sorry that what I did MADE you feel bad" is.
