Bush's Apology - - - What Apology?
This morning I heard Bush's apology repeated time and time again on the news. Each had Bush standing beside Jordan's King Abdulllah and telling the world that he had apologized to the King. Would someone tell me which one of the King's subjects was held up for hummiliation? Which one of King Abdullah's subjects was in that prison? Who heard Bush apologize to the arab world or to the Iraqui people? Not one single word of apology was heard from Bush's lips, only a comment that he had supposedly apologied to the wrong person earlier in the day. Just what you'd expect from the War-Crimes-President.

1. Exactly. It was a non-apology to the Iraqis
and as usual the media give him a pass.
:grr:

2. can't find a transcript of the event
but yes, he told the king he was sorry to see the pics is all. not an official, 'we the people of the u.s. aplogize, or i the president apologize', just a karl rovian word trick. like using saddam and 9-11 in the same sentence, to infer to idiots that he did 9-11

3. First they said he stopped short of an apology (to the Arabs).
Then, just two days later, the talking points include "He apologized on Arab TV interview." Here they go, rewriting history. Liars with no shame.

4. Seems to be the consensus in these forums since he
managed to squeeze out the insufficient words, but the media can't seem to squeeze out the truth as you state it. The headlines say he has apologized, but the text reveals he has not.

5. Its an old trick that says the words but does not take responsibility
Edited on Fri May-07-04 07:35 AM by Az
The pope used the say trick a few years ago when apologising for the Churchs inaction during the holocost. He said specifically they were sorry so many suffered during the time. Never did he claim they suffered because of the churchs inaction or worse support.

Think of it this way. You beat a person up. Later on you tell them I am sorry you suffered. You are not taking responsibility for beating them up. It is a political gambit. One that hopes the words alone will suffice. Then if later challenged you can say you never took responsibility for beating them up.

6. I was about to post this very question
Edited on Fri May-07-04 07:36 AM by neebob
and I'd like to add: What is he supposed to have apologized for? If you believe he apologized, that is. All I heard was he'd told King Abdullah he was sorry for something. And it sounded to me like it had preceded a request to put troops in Iraq. So I'm scratching my head on why people think he apologized for anything.

7. Its the same as saying I am sorry you are upset
Gosh I am sorry you are upset about all that torture. Not really an apology for doing it is it?

8. I was wondering about the Jordanian POWs, too...
Chimp apologized to King Abdullah. Big. Whoop.

No Jordanians in the prison, right? He might as well had apologized to Jacque Chirac...

More fucking "ChimpSpin" (Service Mark of RoveCo)

9. Actually, he was...
apologizing for making the US look bad, not for what actually happened.

Why are so few people picking up on that?

Just like hardly anybody picked up on his bragging about assasinations in the SOTU.

I guess the advantage of being a lousy speaker is that nobody actually listens to what you say.
