Did Bush Know?
Most, if not all reports from the mainstreem media, is saying that Bush had no idea what was going on regarding the Iraqi prisoner abuses. Is this true? I have not been following this story closely because I have been to busy. But eben E.J. Dionne of the Washington Post says that he does not believe for a minute that Bush knew all of this was going on and did nothing about it. True?

1. Bush knew.
And if he didn't that just as bad.

He's the PRESIDENT of the United States. Lack of knowledge is no free pass.

About that time, in January, officials said, Rumsfeld mentioned the prisoner abuse investigation to Bush at a regularly scheduled White House meeting.
At that session, White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan said Wednesday, Bush was satisfied after the defense secretary gave him "a general sense" of the allegations and assured him that "there was an investigation underway."
McClellan said that neither Bush nor White House Chief of Staff Andrew H. Card Jr. could remember the date on which Rumsfeld told the president of the allegations and the ensuing investigation. Di Rita also was unable to specify the date.

Some Pentagon officials contend Bush was informed in January. Marine Gen.
Peter Pace, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Wednesday on
CBS's "Early Show" that beginning in mid-January, everyone "up the chain of
command . . . was kept apprised orally of the ongoing investigation."

Asked if Bush "was well aware of the situation," Pace replied: "Yes."

He only said one word... YES.... when asked if the president knew about this... !!!!!!!
Smirky said he found out about it on TV.
I think congress should impeach them all

4. Why support withdrawal form World Court?
If Bush was aware that battleing the war on terror would require extrodinary efforts in intelligence gathering then Rumsfeld would have told Bush that the ICC Treaty would potentially be bad for them.

It was Rummy's rouge press release statement of May 6th that forced Bush to comply with his wishes to abandon the ICC treaty.

Covering crimes was his specialty.

5. yes and no
I dont have any links to quotes in articles, but this is what i have gathered so far--
bush claims he found out on a newscast (although he also calims never to watch/read the news, hes informed by Condi and Rove, remember?)
we know there have been reports in the pentagon since january. the fact that bush didnt know seems kinda wierd when he is the "commander and cheif"
just more lies and placing the blame...im sure he had to have some idea. The photos are from 1 or 2 incidents...how many were not photographed?

9. "Get a clue! Bush and Rummy knew!"
And they set the tone at the top for this kind of barbaric behavior. Denial of basic legal and human rights was and is condoned by the US government from the Presiden on down to his Attorney General. It was stated US policy. How can Bush escape the responsibility. Would Clinton have been able to escape this responsibility? Hell no!
Bush should be impeached for even approving such a policy...it definitely has endangered the security of the nation and our citizens world-wide.

10. I'd read that he'd seen a report on it.
Edited on Fri May-07-04 11:41 AM by damnraddem
As to whether he knew ten minutes after the report -- I don't know. For that matter, whether he was aware WHILE being briefed, I wouldn't know.

On the other hand, if he actually had to read the report himself, then I'm sure he didn't know.
