Rumsfeld's Rules (Hilarious in retrospect)
For some unintentional humor in light of recent events, read Rummy's admonitions about working for the government (first published in the WSJ in 2001). Paging Jon Stewart! Below are a few of my favorites:

*Learn to say “I don't know.” If used when appropriate, it will be often.

*If you foul up, tell the president and correct it fast. Delay only compounds mistakes.

*It is easier to get into something than to get out of it. :eyes:

*Don't divide the world into “them” and “us.” Avoid infatuation with or resentment of the press, the Congress, rivals, or opponents. Accept them as facts. They have their jobs and you have yours. :wow:

*You and the White House staff must be and be seen to be above suspicion. Set the right example.
:P

What are your favorites? (Thanks to Josh Marshall for the link)

1. Obviously...
Be able to resign. It will improve your value to the president and do wonders for your performance.

2. "Don't say 'the White House wants'. . .buildings can't want."
and

"Never speak ill of your predecessors...you did not walk in their shoes."

I'm saying both of these from memory, BTW.

(Sigh!) Unfortunately, Rummy obviously didn't take his own advice the last few years. Hopefully, a Kerry WH can give these "rules" greater fulfillment.

:kick:
