Those of you complaining about Moore's "stunt" completely miss the point.
First and most important: it is only an ALLEGATION that Moore pushed this story as a publicity stunt--we don't know for a fact that it was a "stunt." Frankly, I don't care if it was a stunt or not. Hell, let's make as much noise as we can, however we can, to draw attention to this very important film.

Second, and this is what everybody is overlooking, even if Moore DID try to push the story to coincide with the film's screening at Cannes, it doesn't change the fact that DISNEY IS STOPPING MIRAMAX FROM RELEASING THE FILM.

Don't be distracted by the anti-Moore static about publicity stunts--all that does is take attention away from the FACT that Disney is engaging in corporate censorship, and specifically following the lead of other companies like Sinclair and Clear Channel who are blatantly shilling for the Bush administration. THAT is what is important, and THAT is the story.

So, kindly take a break from the Moore bashing and reflect on what Disney is doing, regardless of the story's fortuitous timing.

2. Let's just put it this way...
I want this film to be good. I want it to stand on its own merits. But above all I want it to be the truth. We all know that there is enough truth out there that needs and wants to be told, that things don't have to be made up.

The fact is that Moore has definitely twisted some facts and gotten called on his "creative" editing. Don't misunderstand me, I think the people who focus on that completely miss the bigger point of his work.

I just don't want to see him be his own worst enemy.

3. I hope a smaller, more deserving media company
will release Moore's film AND make a ton of money.
Disney blows--they haven't created anything original in YEARS!

5. Um-has nothing to do w/Moore's trust of Disney-he has a long relationship
With Harvey Weinstein and Miramax. The details of their relationship and why Weinstein funded Moore's film have been discussed at length in both the stories and here on DU.

6. what's Weinstein's position on this issue?
I heard Moore and (uck) Eisner speak about this...but nothing from Weinstein, which I thought was odd.

8. Weinstein's a die-hard dem.
I suspect he's more than happy to sit back for a few days and let Disney take some heat over this. Then he'll do what he did with Dogma--shop it around to some indie distributors like Lion's Gate, split the profits and laugh his ass off while the bucks roll in, greatly increased thanks to all this publicity.

7. It's the content. That's the only thing that matters to me.
More publicity the better perhaps more fence sitters may go see it...because I know it's going to be scorching Bush.

I have faith in Michael Moore in that regard.
