You Stupid Americans
I don’t understand it. What’s the matter with you? You keep blaming this administration for things that are not its fault because you simply don’t pay attention to what it says. I’m sitting here now listening to the Rumsfeld hearing and Rumsfeld and his boys are pointing out repeatedly that they told you the army was investigating this torture scandal way back in January, and they told you even more in March. What right do you have to be shocked now? If you’re shocked by the pictures you’ve seen, it’s your own damn fault. It’s sure not their fault. And if you want to assign any other blame, the place to look is in the lowest ranks of the army. Yes, that’s it! It’s your fault and the privates’ fault. That’s the ticket!

And it’s not like it’s the first time you’ve been guilty of not paying attention when you should have. For some reason, you got it into your heads that Saddam was an imminent threat. All you had to do was listen very closely to the words of the plain-spoken man in the White House to realize that he never said Saddam was an imminent threat. I can’t understand how you ever got that idea in your heads. Now that it turns out that he obviously wasn’t an imminent threat, you go looking for someone to blame. Well, you can’t blame the plain-spoken man in the White House, that’s for sure. Face it, Americans. It’s your fault. And the media’s. Yes, yours and the media’s. But it’s sure not his!

Then there’s this notion that Saddam had something to do with the 9/11 attack. You keep trying to link them. The plain-spoken man in the White House never said they were linked. Well, actually he did a few times. But he later said there was no link between Saddam and the 9/11 attack. So what do you remember? The few times he said there was one, that’s what! Do you remember he reversed himself? No. It’s like once you got the idea in your head that there was a link, you ignored his later statement that there wasn’t one. I don’t see how you can blame him for this. The fact that every Republican and every member of the administration can’t use the word “Iraq” without using the word “terrorism” in the same sentence is not relevant here. Saddam had nothing to do with the 9/11 attack. Bush said so. End of story. If you really believe there’s a link, it’s your own fault. And all your fault. It’s not as if somebody is trying to mislead you.

Pay attention!

>I'm tempted to turn the sarcasm off here, but now realize there's more truth than sarcasm in this post. I trust DU readers to understand which is which.<

12. Nice piece
Not everybody is paying attention, which is sad. Not everyone has the intellect to see they are being decieved.

But BushCO are manipulators of the highest degree, parsing words, using euphemisms at every opportunity, (abuses not torture) intimadating and controlling the media, stiring up our hatred with fear and false linkage.

I know who needs to hang and it's not the stupid Americans.

I understand wanting to come home and watch "Friends"(actually no I don't, it wasn't my cup of swill but I do watch some other crap that isn't worth defending) after working all day and having to go to bed in three hours and get up and start it all over again.

It's tiring keeping up with these lies, and it takes time.

14. You? Not me!
*I* knew Iraq and 9/11 weren't linked.

*I* knew Saddam wasn't an imminent threat.

*I* marched against the Invasion of Iraq for the reasons stated above.

Now, about this torture. Call me naive but I'm shocked that the media knew of the torture and knew there were pictures but didn't publish them until recently.

I'm not shocked that the Dept. of Defense and the President tried to keep it all a secret, but to me that just shows how guilty they are, and how involved in the whole mess they are.

I still want to believe we can rely on our press, but sadly that's not the case.

I got the sarcasm after reading halfway through. It sucks that half of America loves that pathetic bitch, but the better half are doing everything we can to get rid of him. Give us a break.

And remember that corporations and special interests play a larger role in politics here than in some countries. That's the only reason why independent thinkers like Howard Dean or John McCain will never lead this country.

I live in Houston. But I'm a transplanted New Englander.

Give you a break? I'm one of you. The people on DU are not the Americans I was addressing this to. DU people are not fooled by the misdirection this administration has been up to from the beginning. And I really don't think most Americans are stupid. I think most Americans don't see how politics affects their lives, so they don't pay attention. DU members live just as hectic lives, but they do pay attention.

38. Good One
and all too true. BTW its not a parody of a freeper point of view because the freepers DO believe there is a link between Iraq and 9/11 and that Saddam WAS an imminent threat from his WMDs (which are now in Syria). No what the post says is true, if you listen to what they said they didn't actually say Saddam was an imminent threat, they just very strongly implied it and the corporate media amplified it.

They (the Bushies) knew exactly what they were doing, they rely on uniformed people hearing the big picture message and not paying attention to the details (or the facts.) The right wingers like to talk about "Clintonian" use of language, well what they did with regard to Iraq and the (non-existent) threat is the most "Clintonian" manipulation EVER. Repeat the lie often enough and people believe it. Make outrageous claims and anyone who denies it must be politically motivated. Worked like a charm for Bush & Co so far.

This is the most cynical bunch of liars and manipulators ever to infest the White House & the sad thing is that its all to blatant and obvious. They get away with it because so much of the public is quite frankly ignorant and we are very badly served by the corporate media who have done little to correct misdirection of public opinion.

The more ignorant and misinformed people are the more likely they are to be Bush supporters.
