Something trully bold is needed to quell the torture fire
I beleive Senator Biden (?) mentioned bulldozing the prison down. I would propose something even more.....disband the entire regiment that was in charge of the prison. Yes, you heard me. Disband the entire regiment. This is a wake up call America. Now we must understand in part WHY we are so hated in the middle east and other regions of the world. This is not isolated instances, but systemic rot of permissiveness that laws can and do be wilfully broken in the pursuit of " the war on terror".

Disband the entire regiment. Show the world just how serious the US takes these accusations. They dishonor what America stands for. They dishonor the army. It will be an ample example for all that this will simply not be tolerated - and will hopefully lead to less army personnel turning a blind eye to what their own teammates are doing.

Disband them. Send them home. Do it now.

1. The problem is....
.... the problem is not confined to a single regiment.

5. correct
systemic widespread, bulldozing may help that one area but it's like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound.

8. Would send a hell of a message though, wouldn't it
You are right, it won't fix the problem, but it would make a hell of a statement, foreign and domestic.

At first blush, without a whole lot of consideration, I like this idea.

9. I'm all for it now
Pull out everyone and let them have at each other. After a few million die in their civil war then they can reflect on it.

13. I think it may be time to question the Civil War supposition;
They seem rather united in their cause at the moment. I don't believe that they can't put their country back together on their own.

4. In a similar vein...
Every Division in the US Army has it's battle honors (the ribbons on top of the flag when they parade). The British Army has them for each regiment. However, the battle of Culloden in 1738 (?) was such a horrible massacre by the English against the Scots that no regiment which was present there counts the battle among its honors.

7. Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Condi and Wolfie must resign.
Only a clean sweep of the entire gang can persuade anyone that we are serious about changing.

12. Well yes, of course I like that concept
But do you honestly think that President Kerry would acquiese to such a thing? Honesty now........

And you know that there is rot at the top, there is rot at the middle and the bottom.....something must be done to keep these thugs in line....reprimands are fluff. Disband the entire regiment.

15. Don't make the regiment pay for the higher-ups.
Full investigations are needed--although unlikely. Some in the regiment may not have been guilty. Some in other regiments may be guilty of crimes elsewhere.

The role of civilian contractors needs investigation.

And, most especially, the roles of members of the Bush administration must be examined. Firing and/or indicting some of that crew would really tell the world we meant business.

I do agree on one point. Send them home. Send all the others home, too.
