From Ralf Nader, back at you babe !
I won't be voting for Nader but he sure got my attention this morning.

This isn't word for word but,

On C-SPAN a lady calls in and says she and her husband are ex-military and they support Bush and the war in Iraq and that the war is bringing us the freedoms we have, yada, yada, yada. (You know the line well I'm sure.)

Ralf then says that the war is wrong and that we gave Saddam the materials to build the WMDs when he was fighting Iran. We were supporting corporate interests, and now their gone. (You know that line also.)

It's just kind of nice to see someone hand the right wingers their hats once in a while.

2. One of the things Ralf does well is
chew the ass of corporate welfare and greed. Something our senators on the hill refuse to touch.

5. Thats why Ralph should run for senate or the house.
He could actually be useful.

9. I'd vote for him *for Senate* if I could
Where does he live, though? Doesn't he live in DC? If so, he can't run, can he?

10. Ralph lives in Connecticut
As far as I know that is still his residence. Im sure he has a place in D.C. Regardless even if he does currently live in D.C. He can just establish a permanent residence in many states with short residency requirements , and he could always go back to CT.

My dream would be him beating Lieberman for a CT senate seat. But he probably has a better shot at winning a house seat in CT, since Lieberman is pretty entrenched and they would probably just split the vote.

3. Ralph sure has more cajones than Kerry
Yes, I will hold my nose and reluctantly vote for Kerry; even though he is dead wrong on the war, trade, and has no solutions for health care.
But, how can one not get excited about Ralph when he calls for the impeachment of the dictator. Kerry is not even that critical of the Patriot Act..
Hope the arguments of Ralph and Dennis Kucinich will give Kerry some backbone.Wish I could vote for Ralph...

4. Well, it's easy to be plain-spoken when you know you're not going to win.

6. Agreed.
It's also easy to criticize other candidate's voting records when you have none yourself.

7. Kerry's job is to win, not to be an idealogue.
Edited on Tue May-11-04 11:34 AM by K-W
I dont want Kerry to be Nader. If Kerry was Nader we would lose this election and lose this country for a very long time. Kerry has a very important role to play for us, Ralph could fufill an important role as well and to the extent he isnt stupidly running for president, he does.

We need Kerrys. We need them desperately. Let our politicians do politics.

8. No kidding! Where was he when war was being discussed?
Not in the limelight, that's for sure. Buy, the courage to say we gave them WMV, one year after we didn't find any! I recall Robert Byrd making a speech on this BEFORE the vote on war. Now THAT's balls.

11. From a former Nader voter: Why a vote for Ralph is meaningless
I voted for Ralph in 2000 (before you hardcore Dems start yelling, I was in Massachusetts, so it's not like I helped Bush win). At that time, I felt voting for Nader was important because he was running on the Green Party ticket. The Green Party has very progressive stances on labor, democratic governance, the environment, and corporate regulation. Had Nader captured 5% of the vote, it would have qualified the Green Party for federal matching funds and may have helped the Green Party become a player on the national level. Unfortunately, this did not happen.

Now, to stroke his inflated ego, Nader is running independent, even though he knows he has no chance of winning. Without the backing of a third party, voting for Nader makes no strategic sense, either in the long run or the short run because it accomplishes nothing organizationally. His candidacy can only cause short-term harm (helping Bush win re-election), while serving no long-term organizational goals. That's why I'm voting Kerry this time, even though I can't stand him (also I'm in a battleground state now, so I can't afford to waste my vote on "principle").
