When did conservative become
a job description? The worst thing that Scaife, Olin, Bradley, AMway, etc. have done to this country is to make it profitable to become "conservative", with no other credentials. Back in the day, conservatives like Buckley, Goldwater, and others had resume's first, then they became pundits. Today, people like Coulter, Hannity, Gallagher, Limpballs, O'Really, KellyAnn Fitseveryone, etc. would be lucky to be bagging groceries if they hadn't stumbled onto careers and professional wing nuts. When did this happen?

1. I guess I'm not sure WHEN it happened
but I sure know WHERE it has happened. The TV and Radio names you mentioned work to occupy all of OUR airwaves. They, and others, work to fill the bookshelves in order to prevent OUR voices from being heard. They take up space in the newspapers too. All in order, to prevent our voices from being heard. As for your question (when), I think the answer must be the early Clinton era. About the time of the Arkansas Project. Some would like us to believe that it was just a small group orchestrating the anti-Clinton hate machine, but it wasn't just a small group. It was all of them. At that time, they decided to use their voices to entirely drown out ours. I'd say about August 1994, to be precise.

3. They Will Go Away???
I disagree with this thought. These people have been hard at work with their plans for taking over the government since the Kennedy era. Whether they were in power or not, as was stated earlier, their think tanks, books, professors, speakers kept up a definite "underground" of information and planning. It was about the time of Johnson's term in office that I distinctly remember hearing a Klansman say that within twenty years they would be in charge of the government.

That's the difference between the conservatives and the liberals. The conservs keep working toward their ends regardless of who is in office while the libs smile happily when their guy is in the WH and go off fishing...not thinking and planning.

This present conservative coup has been building steadlily through Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush the One and now Bush the Two.Bush the Two has now real power. He is expendable. If Quayle could have spelled potatoes, Bush the Two would have still been sending folks to execution in Texas. The real power is Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and Perle. They are not going to just disappear. They have been deeply imbedded in leading government positions for nearly thrity years.

4. When did the FCC rescind the Fairness Doctrine?
It happened when the news stopped trying to be the "fourth estate" in charge of keeping the gov't from being too evil and too corrupt to function, and protecting the public interest by exposing that corruption and the inequalities in society.

Now, the "news" is just another cash cow for the Big Media corporations, with Ronald McDonald & Mickey Mouse anchoring the nightly propaganda broadcast of bullshit from the VRWC. And when they’re not schilling for the GOP, they keep the drooling public abreast of the size of Brittany’s tits and how many people J-Lo has killed – being careful not to offend any of the corporate ruling class while simultaneously neglecting to disseminate any actual information to the citizenry.

8. it's a new form of corporate officer!

Well, business corporations do pay for them and they have no responsibilities other than talking CEO interests up. Perks are probably the same, too. Lying heroically, the same. Mistresses and such, just ask John Fund. I would've guessed 'writing' as part of their job description but, well, stuff whose first draft is in crayon just seems like something else entirely.
