Senator Inhofe is an out right lier!!!!!

Inhofe
From the Senate hearing on Iraqi prisoner abuse, a few moments ago:

JAMES INHOFE (R-OK): All kinds of accounts are coming out now, many are fictitious I would suggest, one was about a guy being dragged out of a barbershop, this was in the Washington Post this morning, they talked about the person doing this had AK47s...are our troops issued AK47s?
LT GEN LANCE SMITH: They are not, sir.

Hah! Gotcha, lying liberal media! Here's the article, which Inhofe has clearly proven to be factually flawed, right?

Not exactly.

BAQOUBA, Iraq (AP) An American soldier stands at the side of an Iraqi highway, puts his AK-47 on fully automatic and pulls the trigger.
--snip--

''We just do not have enough rifles to equip all of our soldiers. So in certain circumstances we allow soldiers to have an AK-47. They have to demonstrate some proficiency with the weapon ... demonstrate an ability to use it,'' said Lt. Col. Mark Young, commander of the 3rd Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 4th Infantry Division.

--snip--

Now U.S. troops who have picked up AKs on raids or confiscated them at checkpoints are putting the rifles to use and they like what they see.

Some complain that standard U.S. military M16 and M4 rifles jam too easily in Iraq's dusty environment. Many say the AK has better ''knockdown'' power and can kill with fewer shots.

''The kind of war we are in now ... you want to be able to stop the enemy quick,'' said Sgt. 1st Class Tracy S. McCarson of Newport News, Va., an army scout, who carries an AK in his Humvee.

Some troops say the AK is easier to maintain and a better close-quarters weapon. Also, it has ''some psychological affect on the enemy when you fire back on them with their own weapons,'' ''Normally an armor battalion is fighting from its tanks. Well, we are not fighting from our tanks right now,'' Young said. ''We are certainly capable of performing the missions that we have been assigned, there's no issue with that, but we do find ourselves somewhat challenged.''

U.S. troops using confiscated Iraqi AK-47s

by Andrew England, Associated Press
August 24th, 2003

BAQOUBA, Iraq (AP) An American soldier stands at the side of an Iraqi highway, puts his AK-47 on fully automatic and pulls the trigger.

Within seconds the assault rifle has blasted out 30 rounds. Puffs of dust dance in the air as the bullets smack into the scrubland dirt. Test fire complete.

U.S. troops in Iraq may not have found weapons of mass destruction, but they're certainly getting their hands on the country's stock of Kalashnikovs and, they say, they need them.

The soldiers based around Baqouba are from an armor battalion, which means they have tanks, Humvees and armored personnel carriers. But they are short on rifles.

A four-man tank crew is issued two M4 assault

1. wouldn't that prove Lt. Gen Smith to be the liar
now the fact that Inhofe is a stupid arrogant asshole is still up for debate. How can you discredit all the reports based on the fact of the weapon being reported to be used?

Oh OJ you have a gun in your house? then you must not have committed the murder cause it was done with a knife!!

3. Yes Gen Smith would not have necessarily understood the question
Because if you don't put it in the precise way they can deny they did say. Also he could get back to him out of sight of camera and correct it and we would never know.

8. And besides, to label him 'liar' assumes that a general knows ...
what's going on with his troops. I'd never make that assumption about Rummy's army. Rummy got rid of any generals who knew what was going on.

2. Inhofe came down squarely against the enlisted man.
I used to live in Oklahoma. Of all of those who support the party that has the least interest in the common (enlisted) man, Oklahoma has got to be near the top %. Maybe this is why it continues to be associated with Okies and the Dustbowl.

5. That is a shame with as much military as there is in OK
of course, those maintenance facilities are mainly staffed with civilians.

4. Many say the AK has better ''knockdown'' power
I am one of those that agree with that statement. I was fortunate enough to be in a unit that allowed us to chose our weapon of choice. I chose the AK-47 and never regretted that decision.

6. He's one of the worst piece of shit Senators we have
He's a coal and oil industry whore who also lies about global warming, and he's on the Senate committee that oversees environmental regulations.

We must win back the Senate!

7. My letter to Imhoff
I am appalled (once again) at your performance in todays Senate Armed Services Committee meeting. One no one is making too big of a deal out of this.
I am a Retired Army Nurse and disgusted that this happened in my Army. These soldiers had poor leadership that goes all the way to the top...and that is where the buck never seems to stop. Those soldiers had some attitude that they had tacit approval for their actions. That would be Rumsfelds disdain for the Geneva Convention.
OUR SOLDIERS DO HAVE AK47'S because our dept. of Defense has failed to adequately equip them.
