Why was the dehumanization photographed?
Haven't been around much. Forgive me if this has been covered before.

But the emerging notion seems to be that these would be used to show others what to expect and/or used as subsequent blackmail.

In other words, policy made above the perpetrators. Is this covered in any reports? Has there been any good reporting done on this question? Have any soldiers spoken to this as policy? (I've only seen it mentioned in passing by Hersh, but w/out support or probing, on the gasbag shows.)

In other words, I find it hard to believe in the "kids raised on porno and Real World" line.

Seems important to me. Verbal orders can be in dispute forever. Images collected in a systematic way from various sources across time on superiors' hard drives would be another thing.

Again, sorry if redundant.

2. I think you hit it on the head.
Of course, the photos could just be an additional way for the perpetrators to get their jollies. But, then, why would the abuse have been as widespread as it was, over as long a period as it occurred, and ignored by higher authorities who had received ICRC and US military reports?

3. 3 reasons I believe
1) It was a trophy for those guys--have you read the reports of these CDs being circulated all through the mess halls?

2) It was to show other prisoners "This will happen to you if you don't behave/cooperate/tell us what we want

3) It was used to record violations of the prisoner's moral and religous code in order to shame the prisoners and blackmail them later after their release. I think this is minor--they don't seem to have recorded WHO the victims of the torture are (or haven't released the data).

4. Yes It Has
It's been discussed, but without solid evidence to show in their defense they are screwed.

It's very probable that they were easily swayed by speeches about duty, and love of country. How by participating in these acts they would be helping in saving American lives both in Iraq and at home.

But in the end it's the word of a group of enlisted reservists against the word of commissioned officers, and civilian contractors.

Who do you think the jury is going to believe?

5. Beheading is a Saudi punishment, Muslims don't believe in
destroying the body, it's a sin and moral evil to
them and against ALLAH. Where did the "orange suit" come from, I have
seen these on American prisoners in the states. This
photo is a fake. Iraqis are a small built people and
these men are big! Someone else "did this".
