Pa. family angry with American government over son's brutal death
http://pennlive.com/newsflash/pa/index.ssf?/base/news-16/108430077760820.xml

Michael Berg lashed out at the U.S. military and Bush administration, saying his son might still be alive had he not been detained by U.S. officials in Iraq without being charged and without access to a lawyer.

1. I don't understand what happened.
i feel sick, and sort of panicky. Jesus, what an awful thing. coming on top of so many other awful things, it's really too much- these poor families! I can only think that the US detained him because he knew/saw something he shouldn't have- think "Missing" and Charles Horman.

2. from what I can gather...
it seems he went over to Iraq to land some business contracts on his own. My guess is that he wasn't on the Bush list of "approved" companies to exploit the country and so they held him in detention to find out who he was and what he was doing in Iraq.

3. The father is not going to let this story die.
If a distraction is what the Bushies were hoping for, they're going to be sorely disappointed.

5. I saw a clip of the father on CNN saying how his son was gung ho..
Edited on Tue May-11-04 05:07 PM by Kahuna
about what bush was doing in Iraq and wanted to help. I got the impression that the father was not repuke minded but that the son was. This story confirms by impressions. The father just didn't have that trademark repuke smirk. Anyway, nothing in that clip revealed any hard feelings by the family.
