Bush's Church Makes Statement on War
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040511/ap_on_re_us/prisoner_abuse_churches
The nation's largest association of mainline Protestant and Orthodox Christian churches said Tuesday that U.S. policy in Iraq (news - web sites) has become so destructive the United Nations (news - web sites) should take over.

Separately, bishops of the United Methodist Church, which claims President Bush (news - web sites) and Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) as members, said the war has led to the "denigration of human dignity."

9. Here's more UMC statements on the BUsh administration
PITTSBURGH (UMNS) — United Methodist and ecumenical representatives expressed frustration over what they view as President Bush’s refusal to listen to other religious voices regarding Iraq. http://www.umc.org/interior.asp?ptid=17&mid=4544

"CHARLESTON, W.Va. (UMNS) - The press has largely ignored and underreported the fact that leaders of a majority of U.S. churches oppose the continuing unilateral occupation of Iraq and the Bush administration's pre-emptive war policy, a United Methodist bishop has charged.

"WASHINGTON (UMNS) - A former top State Department analyst, who alleged that White House officials distorted intelligence reports to justify war with Iraq, said the world is "less secure" today than before the war.

"In my opinion, the U.S. is less secure today than we would be if the war had not occurred," said Greg Thielmann, a United Methodist, who headed the State Department's intelligence bureau that analyzed military issues.

Thielmann spoke March 6 during the denomination luncheon at the Ecumenical Advocacy Days for Global Peace with Justice conference.

The UMC Official Statement on War:
"The United Methodist Church believes war is incompatible with the teachings of Christ and urges the peaceful settlement of disputes among nations. However, the church acknowledges that when peaceful alternatives have failed, armed force may be necessary."

4. the only religion that actually approved of Bush's illegal invasion
Edited on Tue May-11-04 04:34 PM by Marianne
on lies, is the Southern Baptist Convention, whose history is quite interesting. This SBC was once the religion of Jimmy Carter , who saw fit to publically resign because of the change in it's policies.

SBC was couped by the far right, who with devious means, ousted it's more liberal leaders. Most prominent in this devious and slimy coup, was Chuck Colsen.

All the other religions came out not in favor of this invasion.

Bush ignored them all. He refused to meet with any of them at all.

He willfully went against them all and invaded on lies. He knew what he was doing and probably thought he was hearing messages from the god that told hi8m to do it--at least it has been reported that he thought he was receiving messages from the god.

In other words,
Bush has defined Christianity for those Christians who support him

8. So is Bush still attending Methodist services?
Are the Concerned Women of America going to go on CNN and demand that the United Methodist Church withhold services and sacraments from Mr. Bush, since he is clearly not following the denomination's tenets?

I don't believe I'll hold my breath for that one to happen.

10. Wouldn't happen anyway - sacraments are left up to the individual
to decide whether they should take them. I'm a United Methodist, believe me, I wish the conservatives would pull out of the denomination - make life better for the rest of us. Bush is ignorant of the beliefs of the United Methodist church, but why should that surprise ANYONE - he's ignorant about everythinG!
