772 Dead Soldiers=Ho Hum/4 Burned Mercenaries + 1 Contractor=Outrage
Why is that?

Where's the outrage over the nearly 800 service deaths, not to mention the 10,000+ Iraqis killed? Why is it nowhere near the outrage people exhibit over these mercenaries?

Here's why: most Americans aren't servicemen (and they sure as hell aren't Iraqis). For all their lip service about loving and honouring our military, they really have no connection to them. Plus, let's face it, bushco treats our soldiers like expendable chattel. WE EXPECT THEM TO DIE!

But *private citizens* getting killed? Citizens who aren't even shooting at them damn furriners? Hey, they sounds alot like THE REST OF US! It hits too close to home. It's the only group involved in this mess that we truly identify with, cause it sure as hell ain't the Iraqi people or our soldiers.

Rant over.

1. it's all in the photos...

We've now seen the graphic photos of the Berg killing and the mercenaries in Fallujah. Naturally, they create revulsion, just as the photos of our soldiers abusing prisoners do.

THIS is why the administration won't allow photographers at Dover AFB. THAT is why the freepers went insane when Nightline showed pictures of our dead soldiers. THAT is why you have yet to see one battlefield photo of a dead soldier, despite the fact that these images abounded during Vietnam.

It's all about controlling the images, and with this many fatalities, are you surprised?

And now the video. We live in a visual culture.

Not a lot of readers, ya know.
