How clever is the Mossad ?
The Israeli Intelligence agency? Do they play both sides? Are they more pro-American than pro-Israeli? Are they involved in any way in the Iraqi War? Any opinions?

1. Clever enough not to totally trust the US
Why else would they have sent spies into our government during the Reagan/Bush years?

2. Already proven they're involved in Iraq
British soldiers have said that Mossad agents trained US and UK counterparts in interrogation techniques for use in Iraq.

The other sources were in articles having to do with Taguba's report.

This is something The US REALLY doesn't want to come to light.

"Secret / No Foreign Dissemination" was the classification of that report. Madsen wraps it up pretty well.

The other sources about that are in Arabic papers/sites. I'll start book-marking them as I find them for you.

The motto of Mossad.

No way in hell they're pro-American, all Israel, no worries about where their loyalties lie.

As for their capabilities and involvement in the middle east. Let's see what US intelligence thinks of them.

An elite U.S. Army study center has devised a plan for enforcing a major Israeli-Palestinian peace accord that would require about 20,000 well-armed troops stationed throughout Israel and a newly created Palestinian state.

snip

But a 68-page paper by the Army School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) does provide a look at the daunting task any international peacekeeping force would face if the United Nations authorized it, and Israel and the Palestinians ever reached a peace agreement.

snip

Of the MOSSAD, the Israeli intelligence service, the SAMS officers say: "Wildcard. Ruthless and cunning. Has capability to target U.S. forces and make it look like a Palestinian/Arab act."

6. Very clever. Very good. Very dedicated to their mission.
but totally lacking in any morals. There is no line the Mossad won't cross because they can always convince people that if it's for the security of Israel, it's acceptable.

I don't think our guys are any more moral but they're restricted by more laws, oversight, and a very squeemish public. Bush has been working at changing all of that as we well know.

Defintely more pro-Israeli than pro-American. I mean lol Kentuck, why would they have any loyalty to America? They're not our secret service.

And yes crawling all over Iraq. Just like the CIA.

9. I was saying that tongue-in-cheek, tinoire....
Becuase I think there may be some people that see them as our ally and therefore operating in our interest alone. And that is certainly not the way it is...

14. And very, very evil.
Many incidents blamed on Palestinians and other Arabs were not by them but by Mossad. Do a search and you can find, if they haven't been scrubbed from the Net confessions from at least one former Mossad agent.

7. Why would they be
more pro American than pro Israeli? They're the ISRAELI intelligence agency, so I would assume that Israel's security and interests are most important to it, just as American interests (usually corporate interests) are the paramount concern for the CIA. Apparently the US did rely on Israeli intelligence prior to the war and it was a mistake and I think even the CIA was somewhat skeptical of it. This was stuff that was probably fed in to Wolfowitz, Perle, and Rumsfeld by Likudniks. I think Chalabi may have had some connections with them as well. A lot of that was what led to the poor planning for the initial fighting, aftermath of the initial military operations (such as the disasterous security situation that followedt he fall of Saddam), the "we'll be greeted with roses" bullshit, and other blunders.

The Mossad has a history of being involved in all sorts of conflicts. I also think they are quite clever. They have agents all over the world collecting intelligence.

Anyways, I'm sure at the minumum Israel has Mossad agents in Iraq collecting intelligence. They are probably also trying to establish contacts with various groups and figures they may see as gaining power in a future Iraqi administration. My guess would be they have pretty friendly relations with Kurdish groups already. THis is jut a guess though. I haven't read about any real contacts between them.

I'm not sure how much more they are involved but I'm not big on conspiracy theories...It's hard to say exactly what their involvement is, since it's so shadowy and secretive.
