What were the prisoners in Abu Ghraib being held for?
I'm in an argument with a freeper and he is telling me that the Red Cross report that says 70-90% of detainees doesn't apply because these prisoners were the worst of the worst. I need to know what they are actually being held for.

1. There's a report linked here somewhere that says
that the military themselves just admitted that 90% of them were held for no good reason whatsoever. They were not the "worst of the worst," whatever that means anyway. I think that Rumsfeld sent everyone in that category to Gitmo. Today Rummy said that Gitmo prisoners are not covered by the Geneva Convention. Gee, I wonder how they are being treated?

My only small consolation is that there are probably no children at Gitmo.

Ask your freeper what he thinks a fourteen-year old boy could have done to be considered the worst of the worst. His arm was broken and he was slammed to the floor during lock-up. When he cried and wet his pants begging for his parents, the MPs laughed at him.

2. Many were just rounded up
randomly or on a tip, and in one account I read, the soldiers would knock on the door where they were supposed to take people and if they weren't home and the neighbor came out to see what was going on, they took the neighbor instead. This is a story from a soldier who was there.

5. Talking to a soldier at Chicago airport last week...
He was on a 2 week leave and his specialty is finance, not MP duties but had been at this prison many times. His comment was that many people were just rounded up and held there until they could figure what if anything they were to be charged with. Totally casual conversation so I don't present it as "evidence", just a comment.
