Kerry Opens Lead In Ohio (according to ARG)
Sen. John Kerry leads President Bush 49% to 42% among likely voters in Ohio, according to a new American Research Group poll. Just 2% of likely voters say they would vote for Ralph Nader and 7% of likely voters are undecided.

"In a race between just Kerry and Bush, Kerry is at 50%, Bush is at 43%, and 7% are undecided."

Update: The Cleveland Plain Dealer notes Kerry is setting up a campaign operations in Ohio. Earlier, we noted Kerry's lack of organization in the state.

1. This is HUGE.
Get Kerry to Ohio. Have him talk about the lost manufacturing jobs that aren't coming back. I've talked to quite a few people from the industrial parts of Ohio, and they all say the same thing - they just want someone to *acknowledge* the fact that they've gone through hell and survived. Kerry can win Ohio, but he needs to get out there are the union halls, etc and say his piece.

3. Scares me too...
I live near Youngstown, and it seem that election officials are bustin' their ASSES to get the touchscreens in place by November, (1984).
The local paper tells of difficulties with verification etc. But it's as though getting the machines installed is all that's important.

7. The problem here is..
Most of the voters that would like to see Buxh gone.....Don't vote !
My strategy this year has been to register people who, for one reason or another, never have before.
My fav method is to send them to the congressional website, as nothing can be easier. So far I've multiplied my vote X 4. (that I'm sure of)

5. BTW...
Either people here are gettin' sick of listening to me, or the tide really is FINALLY changing.
It seems as though the obvious change in war sentiment is causing some second thoughts among previous Buxh loyalists.
I could never figure out why ANYONE in this area would even consider keeping the current White House occupants. Apparently, war fever held sway with some....til recently.

6. one good thing
Howard Stern has a good-sized audience in Ohio.

I read an article today about this.

Bush won Ohio by a fairly slim margin.

8. Kerry must not repeat Gore's Ohio mistake from 2000.
Gore thought he would lose the state by a wide margin, and so he pulled all his ads and didn't bother to campaign there near the end.

And he did lose Ohio - but by a narrow margin. One wonders what would have happened if he had duked it out with Bush there in the last few weeks. Florida wouldn't have mattered.

If Bush loses Ohio, he's in trouble historically speaking. No Republican has ever won the White House without Ohio.
