Kerry just said why he mentions John McCain's name !
It was just on FOX News.

"I do it because it drives Karl Rove nuts." That's what he said! :)

7. It's a smart joke
Reagan had a lot of people in his administration with a lot of negatives; but he got away with it because people didn't associate the negatives with Reagan himself. Sure the policy was crap, but you were pretty sure Reagan was doing his best (well, to be fair, lots of people didin't trust Reagan.)

Kerry's joke has the positive effect of reminding people that a vote against President Bush isn't just a vote against President Bush, it's a vote against Rove, it's a vote against Cheney, it's a vote against Rumsfeld, and so on and so forth.

9. Hmm? I never thought Reagan was doing his best.
He spent half his time in office napping, for one thing.

11. Yeah
But there it is--people assumed that if Reagen had been awake he woudl have done something. I'm not saying I agree with that assessment; I strongly disagree. But Reagan coasted on personality and trust more than most presidents aer allowed to, and we don't want to give W the same chance.

compare Reagan to Nixon--when Nixon went through watergate, eventually it was determined that the rot in teh system originated in his office.

12. Unfortunately, that was his best
Go look up Alzheimers Disease and you'll see that he was almost certainly seriously affected before he even started his '80 run for President. The neo-cons took advantage of a very sick man.

The Repukes haven't been able to get their story straight, or more importantly, believed, for several weeks now. I think KKKarl's just plain out of his depth. Which is pleasing.

Anything that drives Rove nuts is a good thing. I like the fact that Senator Kerry has a sense of humor.

19. Kerry and McCain are close friends after working on the Nam issues
for so many years. McCain defended Kerry on defense too so JK can have some fun with McCain at Rover's expense-- it's a win-win JK is funny and McCain keeps his name in the news :)

In my view, just because what's happening in your state with a Dem governor doesn't mean that Kerry is doing the same with McCain.

23. Kerrry/McCain ticket will never, ever happen
Edited on Sun May-16-04 09:45 PM by FrankBooth
and both Kerry and McCain know it. Kerry is floating it, and McCain is not raising much of a stink about Kerry floating it, which leads me to believe that they are mocking/threatening Bush in some way. Bush would be absolutely destroyed by a Kerry/McCain ticket, so I think the the two are simply trying to squeeze a little value out of the POSSIBILITY of this fantasy horse-race ticket. In the background, both Kerry and McCain realize that it is politcally impossibe.
