Got a fund-raising call from the DLC last night at 9:45.
I was not a happy responder.

I told the guy I would not contribute again to the party until they ditched the lousy, soft "leadership" team of Gephardt and Dashle, and stopped kissing Bush's sorry ass. "Tell that to McAulliffe!"

I told him I was furious with the way Democrats in congress have rolled over and played dead to this little Hitler in the White House.

I said I wasn't alone. "There are almost 30,000 of us on DU most of whom feel the same way."

I was beginning to feel a little sorry for giving him such an earful, but I noticed he was kind of chuckling.

"You know, I've heard an awful lot of that," he said. "It's great! I know what you're saying. I'll pass it along."

He obviously agreed with me 100%. And he obviously was delighted there was such passion out here in the hinterland. (Too bad it takes a near-death experience, like the Shrubbie selection, to get us all motivated.)

1. Do you mean the DNC?
I still give money to them because the GOP has such a huge fund-raising advantage but I know where you're coming from.

11. It was probably the DNC
I got a similar call two weeks ago, with results similar to what the poster described. The woman that I spoke said that they (the DNC) were getting a lot of previous contributors say that they were only giving money to the candidates they preferred, and that they lambasted the Congressional Democrats for kow-towing to Bush.

She did say that a lot of her contactees were angry!

If it is any consolation, she also said that our comments were being passed to whoever she worked for in the DNC.

14. Yup. Sorry. DNC. Not DLC. My mistake.
And I'm not refusing to donate to Dem candidates. Just to the DNC.

Money talks. Money is about the only thing that talks.

3. Probably a hired gun
Most likely you were called by a paid phonebanker rather than a volunteer. Perhaps the person was happy for the opportunity to express his/her opinions rather than just those of the party leadership.

By the way, what kind of outfit calls people at 9:45 at night? I thought it was against the law to call people after 9 at night or before 9 in the morning.

5. Of course he'd pass it along. McAuliffe is DNC not DLC
If you railed on Al From and Bruce Reed who lead the DLC he might not have agreed quite so much.

8. McAuliffe is as DLC as the day is long
That's how/why he got his job, thanks to Mr. Clinton. That and what a good FUNDRAISER he is. Knows where the big money is, how to get it, and sometimes how to put some in his own pocket (viz. WorldComm).

6. Besides, we don't need to phone for bucks
Edited on Wed Jul-09-03 08:10 PM by Capn Sunshine
Remember, we have so much money we tell the DNC who to vote for.

9. Great letter but until you put a muzzle on From and Reed as
the mouthpiece's for everyone in the DLC, you're going to catch hell.

12. Hey, that's a very nice, informative letter
I thought all DLCers goose-stepped to the same tune, I guess there are progressive people in the DLC as there are in the NRA (I know for a fact that not every member of the NRA is a GOP gun nut!

Maybe some of you should split from the DLC and form a new organization.

10. Then don't complain about Democrats not having $$
I don't know why you think you're so cool by refusing to donate money. And first of all the DLC and the DNC are not one and the same. Secondly, why do you have to act so self-righteous? Then, since you think you're so cool because you refuse to donate, I don't want to see any threads from you complaining about why the "left" and why the "Democrats don't have money". Don't complain.

You have every right not to donate but don't then complain about the fundraising disparities.

13. First of all, it was DNC, not DLC. Sorry. Second, you're wrong.

I'm not refusing to give money to Dem candidates. Dammit, jiacinto, you should know me better than that by now.

I'm refusing to give money to the Democratic National Committe.

I give lots of money to candidates. And I usually donate to the DNC as well. But the brakes are on to the DNC until I see a little more spine coming from the Dem leadership. I did exactly the same thing during the Reagan grind in the 80's when our leadership did exactly the same kind of ass kissing to Reagan.

When the hell did you become so snippy? I thought you and I have corresponded before. You having a bad night?

On Edit:

You know, you missed the whole damn point of the post, too. The point is that this guy, calling Democrats across the country, is hearing the same story. And he agrees with it.
