5. Not a credible source but Faux was breathlessly reporting this.
They are the first to get the daily talking points memo from bushlerco, so that makes sense.

3. Were they Abu Ghraib prison guards?
CPA is also blaming the assassination of the Iraqi governing council president on the same group that killed Berg.

I think they are right: al CIAda.

4. wow.. that's some damn fine detective work there..
they should use the same methods to track down the anthrax mailer. Frankly, I'm surprised that they didn't have the culprit's faces plastered on the TV the next day, like they did with the 911 hijackers.

22. Hey if you want to commit a crime
Just don't do it in Iraq or you will be caught. Come to the US or go to Afganistan and you can get away with murder.

Australian paper, too:
FOUR people have been arrested over the beheading of US businessman Nicholas Berg, whose killing was shown earlier this month in a video on an al-Qaeda linked website, a senior Iraqi source said today.

Asked if more than one person had been arrested in connection with the killing, the source said: "Yes, four people."

Mr Berg's beheading was shown on a grainy video posted on the Islamic website linked to Osama bin Laden's terror network, days after his body was found in Baghdad on May 8.

"We have made good progress," the source added, referring to the investigation, but declined to give any details on the identity of the four people held in detention.

But it was understood that none of the four included Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who US authorities believe carried out the killing of the 26-year-old who was in Iraq to drum up business for his small telecommunications company.

8. This may be the very last we hear of these arrests.
If they can't be made to seem related to Zarqawi, these guys will probably enter a black hole never to be heard from again.

Edited on Tue May-18-04 11:02 AM by imax2268
has turned into a "racial war"...this one is better...sticks to the subject...

I'd like to know how they knew who to nab if all the men were covered up...?

That doesn't make any sense to me...

What is the CPA saying about it...?

20. The story is being killed
BBC News reported this too, and I'm sure they first cited "Iraqi authorities", and other sources have cited a "senior Iraqi source". But then, curiously, BBC didn't mention it again for over an hour, and when they did briefly mention it twice more, it had changed to "reports" then "unconfirmed reports" of 4 arrests, with no other details. Now it's just been dropped, without even a mention of coalition denials.

29. Down the memory hole
Honestly, the BBC's coverage of this was weird. It wasn't like these bits of propaganda that get prominently floated then quietly corrected later, this was totally squashed the minute it broke.

Their initial report was a bit before 3pm GMT, yet it wasn't even mentioned in the hourly round-up that quickly followed. Just the two brief mentions later that backed off on attribution... then nothing. No clarification, correction or denial... just gone.

If it was only Sky (Fox) reported it I could accept that, they'll spout any old shite, but Agence France-Presse reported this too, and the BBC aren't prone to spouting uncorroborated rumours then not even bothering to fucking correct them!

Kick, with added "wtf did I imagine it?"

:wtf:

I'd like to hear the story behind the story. Who broke it and how did they get it? Was it Sky?

31. You probably called it in post #8
They weren't related to Al-Zarqawi so the story had to disappear.

Which leads to an obvious question...

27. it's getting more bizarre...
In Mosul, police chief Maj. Gen. Mohammed Khair al-Barhawi insisted Thursday that his department had never arrested Berg and maintained he had no knowledge of the case.

"The Iraqi police never arrested the slain American," al-Barhawi told reporters. "Take it from me ... that such reports are baseless."
