ALBRITTAIN, ELIZABETH L. (Age 81)
Died Saturday, May 9, 2004 at her daughter's home in Arlington, VA. "Liz" was born in Pontiac, MI, and grew up in a large family with Tennessee roots. Always ambitious and independent, she worked at department stores while still in school and later became a model, doing fashion shows for Yonkers Department Store in Omaha, NE. While married to Air Force Lt. Col. A. E. Dawson, Liz became the manager of fur coat sales for all of the military exchanges in Europe. She traveled throughout Europe and had adventures in East Germany and the Soviet Union. Upon returning to the States in the early 1960s, she became a leading sales person for Routh Robbins Real Estate in Northern Virginia. She later married John Albrittain, a developer, and after several years of marriage, divorced and returned to her hometown in Michigan. There she was highly successful in the real estate market until emphysema forced her to slow down in her mid-70s.
Liz became increasingly liberal as she aged, and told a minister a few days before she passed that she regretted that she would not live long enough to see Sen. John Kerry win the White House. This appeared in The Washington Post from 5/13/2004 - 5/14/2004.
