Is defeating Bush* at all costs a shared goal at DU?
Or is defeating Bush*, but only on certain terms, the shared goal?

The reason I ask is that I have seen countless posts favorably talking up Nader. I have also seen numerous posts where the writer "won't vote for Kerry" if he makes some policy or political move they disagree with.

My impression was that DU was dedicated to defeating Bush* without question, but maybe that was just my hope rather than the policy.

What do you think?

2. I don't know if it's the shared goal, but it's mine
I find it hard to believe that there are some liberals who would rather stand on principal and risk having another 4 years of Bush. And the effect of another Bush term is likely to be much longer due to the fact that the next president will probably appoint more Supreme Court justices.

5. "All costs"?...I'm not sure I would go that far....
...we have paid a hefty price with Bush being put into power already. I would not want to go on paying heavily in some other unknown way. No, I would say that Bush must be defeated in a fair election, on a Democratic platform that addresses what Americans want from their government, truth, honesty, fairness, and every RW rethuglican/CF driven out of Washington on their asses. I'd also like to see Kerry get our troops out of Iraq as soon after he is elected as he can. That will take getting a coalition together of not just world leaders, but U.S. leading thinkers who can clean up the foreign relations mess. Oh and one other thing, if BushCo has violated war crime laws, those guilty of war crimes must be prosecuted.

6. I will only go so far. If Kerry keeps trying to run to the right of the
shrub or picks a repug lite for vp I'll have to check my heart. I know it sounds hard but unless it's verry close in Maryland I'll be voting with my heart. If it's close I'll vote for Kerry. That's all I can promise to someone who has given me no reason to vote FOR him.
p.s. Do you believe the Dem's made "deal" with the shrub to pass 25 of his right wing bigots as judges if he "promises" not to use the recess appointments. This is asinine, it the shrub loses he'll pack the court with every Nazi he can find and if the wins he'll do the same. When will these people understand that they are dealing with true evil and everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie.

7. If it isn't our only goal,
then we'll just have to put up and shut up for four (plus) more years of: high times for the top 1% at the expense of our future, and our kids and grandkids' futures, as well.

We'll just have to accept * packing SCOTUS with four more fare (sic) and balanced judges cloned from Scumlia.

We'll have air we can see, water we can smell, and be run off the road by bigger and bigger SUVs.

We'll see more preemptive wars and all our 19 year olds will have compulsory service.

We'll have ...

George W. Bush's Wonderful World
(With Apologies to Louis Armstrong...)

I see seas of green, tax cuts for my friends
I see them bloom for me but not for your ends
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I privatize all so my friends will do well
You'll pay dearly ahead, we will have had ours
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

We're all so secure knowing I'm at the helm
With Ashcroft and TIA both watching us then
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I say who needs laws? and might makes right
I'll go it alone, our allies aren't tight
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The axis of evil isn't behavin'
One is rantin', the other not cavin'
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see people's hands shakin', sayin' "I've got mine"
They're really saying "Screw you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll pay much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

Oh yeah

9. There will always be disruptors here because ...
Skinner is too nice to eject people until they prove themselves to be freepers openly.

As a result you might find ANY viewpoint here for a New York Minute.

It is certainly the shared goal of the vast majority to oust Bush.

I personally believe Nader is a corporate spook (Princeton "mate" of Rumsfeld - the "seat" of the spook world).

And Kerry has his drawbacks.

But very few believe the fascist Bush regime should survive and most folks here are starting to rumble for war crimes prosecution and treason charges and the dock at the Hague.

Don't sweat it, though...

DU's beauty is in its imperfections...not unlike Dean and Kucinich and Edwards or even Kerry and Clark.

10. I would not vote for Kerry if he chooses a republican for VP.
That would mean the Democratic Party had been sold out.

And that's why I know for a fact that John Kerry will not choose a republican for a running mate.

11. Defeating Bush is the beginning
for me. But this is the main focus now - defeating this misadministration is the most important task at hand. Period.

12. It depends on what you mean by "defeating Bush"
There are some people here that are content with letting this little butt nugget slip out of office and go back to Crawford. To me that isn't a defeat because, just like his Daddy, he will still be able to be a part of the political arena.

13. HELL YES
if 600 principled hand wringers had voted for the more boring candidate (who just might not been liberal enough for their tastes) in my state of Florida we wouldn't be having this conversation. Lookie here at the war, the deficit, the loss of our liberties, the wholesale sale of our environment to the corporate interests, the right wing swing of *B's political agenda he is forcing down our gullets, the (almost) disgust our allies now hold us in, AND JUST WHAT IN THE HELL DO YOU THINK HE WILL DO WITH FOUR MORE YEARS AND NO REELECTION RESTRAINTS TO HAVE TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION ???
