Here is how you will know when "Bush is toast"
Watch the responses coming from some of the more influential and mainsteam Repukes, especially Senators like John Warner and Richard Lugar and of course John McCain. They will signal when the jig is up. My belief is that they have a very acute sense of where Torturegate is heading. If they think it is going to be a run away train and go all the way up the chain to the top they will organize an exit strategy for Chimpy and friends. They will have to act fast or the backlash from this thing will have devastating consequences come November including the possible loss of both Houses of Congress.

As it stands right now we are beginning to see signs from these guys that they know the ship of state is badly listing.

Stay tuned.

1. Did you see McCain on MTP?
The only good thing he said about the admin was that "the economy is starting to bounce back."

Pretty sparse praise, IYAM.

2. If it gets that bad, do they run a different suit in place of Bush?
Who? What is the tipping point for that to occur?

it might be their best course of action to save the Party.

12. There is another possibility....
remember the "0" year curse? Guess who was elected in a year ending in zero? No, strike that... he wasn't elected at all, was he? Rats.

15. Yeah, but...
if he'd been farther away from a trauma center when he got shot, who knows? He was certainly horribly wounded. Don't get me wrong; I HOPE the curse is broken. A martyred * is the very last thing we need!

6. They can't do that unless Bush "voluntarily" steps down
And in any case it will be seen as an abject failure, which is something the pugs will not under any circumstances admit to.

7. McCain is getting so much exposure,
I'm figuring that he is being positioned in case Dubya gets nailed for his high crimes and misdemeanors.

After all that McCain went through in South Carolina, I couldn't understand why he praised bush* and said that he supported him on MTP last Sunday. The only logical reason is that he has to stay in the good graces of the Repub Party in order to be Dubya's replacement either in '04 or to run against Kerry in '08.

18. McCain will not run in 2008
And they will not use him to replace Bush in 20004.

Don t you get it yet? The money people getting rich the past 4 yrs will never let McCain win...they cannot control him.

The right-wingers are doing everything they can to change the subject and to minimize the whole torture scandal.

8. Trust me this one will not die
The crimes are so visible and heinous that they repulse even some of the staunchest Repukes. And let's not forget the career soldiers and officers who are repulsed by the civilian coup on the military. They are the ones who are now feeding inside info to Hersh and Isikoff. The blood is in the water and the sharks are swarming.

14. You know they are in a sticky situation when this is the best line
They can come up with. This is an election year, everything is being politicized. And I dont have a problem with this. At least someone is standing up for what is right.

16. Senators will turn, but the House will start it off in earnest
When the House of Reps start feeling the heat from their constituency they will turn on Bush. I've heard that they are much more responsive to the "folks back home". Not wanting to sacrifice their own careers by supporting Bush they won't hold on to him for loyalty sake. So start turning the heat up on the Reps. Write them, even the Republican Reps. The more heat that they get, the quicker we will see Bush sink! They don't want to be sacrificed in 2006. The Houses cannot be sacrificed. Bush can turn into a liability for the Party as a whole and then that is it! As this all begins to snowball then the Senators will come out against Bush and then Bush is toast.

I imagine the only hold outs for Bush - till the bitter end - will be turncoat wannabe Repuker Libermann and Zell.

19. I'll know chimpy is toast
on Inauguration Day. I'd love to think that he'd leave office before his term is up. So many thought that Condi or Rummy would fall on their swords and that hasn't happened. A resignation would mean defeat and this brand of repug doesn't do that sort of thing. They apologize for nothing.
