Say what you want about Wolfowitz, Armitage is worse...

It's old news...getting in way over our heads in Iraq, failed intelligence, "they put up more of a fight than we anticipated," requests for $25 billion more with a $50 billion chaser in 2005 and "more to come," getting a little too cocky over out instant ability to win "hearts and minds"...and then there's this:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=676&e=3&u=/usatoday/20040519/ts_usatoday/wolfowitzlengthofforcesstayiniraqstillunknown
Wolfowitz: Length of force's stay in Iraq still unknown

We know Wolfie and what to expect from him. But take note of Armitage's comments:

"Neither Wolfowitz nor Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage said when Iraqis would take over military prisons in the wake of a scandal over U.S. abuse of Iraqi prisoners."

""It may be good politics to make sure that we no longer have 'occupying power' after our name," New Jersey Democrat Jon Corzine said. "But if it is a puppet regime or if it is ineffectual, it may end up setting a framework for failure in the long term."

"You're dead right," Armitage agreed. "An ineffectual or a faulty transition would be a disaster for us. A puppet would even be worse."

Despite the uncertainties, Armitage tried to be reassuring: "I'd prefer to look at this somewhat like people prefer to look at the music of Wagner. It's better than it sounds."

So there you have the truth, friends...despite what you may believe about the cost of the war in terms of dollars and lives...despite the ever-increasing worldwide hatred toward the U.S....despite the lies and manipulation that got us there and keeps us there, digging in deeper every day...it's really like classical music, because it's better than it fucking sounds.

But he's right about one thing. Having a puppet in charge would be a fucking disaster.

2. More like Tor Johnson from "Plan Nine From Outer Space"...
...even though, in real life, the late great Tor was widely acknowledged as being a wonderful human being.

For instance:

T.R.C. Thailand Revolutionary Council
Date. June 28, 1987
To: U.S. Justice Department
Washington, D.C.
U.S.A.

Subject: Important facts for the Drugs Eradication Program to be successful.

Sirs:

This letter to the US Justice Department is to make it clear about our deepest concern in wishing to help eradicate drugs and for all the American people as well as the world to know the truth that for the past (15) years they have been misled to look upon us as the main source of all the drug problems.

...

During the period (1965 - 1975) CIA Chief in Laos, Theodore Shackly, was in the drug business, having contacts with the Opium Warlord Lor Sing Han and his followers. Santo Trafficano acted as his buying and transporting agent while Richard Armitage handled the financial section with the Banks in Australia. Even after the Vietnam War ended, when Richard Armitage was being posted to the US Embassy in Thailand, his dealings in the drug business continued as before. He was then acting as the US government official concerning with the drug problems in Southeast Asia. After 1979, Richard Armitage resigned from the US Embassy's posting and set up the "Far East Trading Company" as a front for his continuation in the drug trade and to bribe CIA agents in Laos and around the world. Soon after, Daniel Arnold was made to handle the drug business as well as the transportation of arms sales. Jerry Daniels then took over the drug trade from Richard Armitage. For over 10 years, Armitage supported his men in Laos and Thailand with the profits from his drug trade and most of the cash were deposited with the Banks in Australia which was to be used in buying his way for quicker promotions to higher positions.

...

Yours Respectively
Khun Sa

Vice Chairman
Thailand Revolutionary Council
